Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Corporations cannot and should not simply do WHATEVER they want

We should never want to, nor stand for, living in a society where corporations such as Humana can simply do WHATEVER they want to do.

There are written laws for which they mist adhere to AND there are unwritten laws, which we often call morals, ethics, and goodwill, which these corporations should adhere to.

Humana is failing on both fronts of written and unwritten laws.

Time they either cease to exist as a corporation or please leave Louisville as your home base so that your stench of corruption will not rub off on other local corporations, communities, and our citizens.

@dw The federal government hired and fund Humana to put a halt to fraud, waste, and abuse so as to save the government and tax payers for wasting money on illegitimate services. But appears if the federal government were to just fire Humana that the government would be saving money on fraud, waste, and abuse.

Get it?! Because Humana is committing the very mandate they were hired to do!

@g4 So, it almost appears like Humana likes to stack the deck and does not like to do things above board. Seems rather shady and unethical.

“This blows me away as I am in total shock!,” he says sarcastically

C’mon Humana! You used to be better than this, once upon a very long time ago.

My apologies; I see read the conflict part.

“ Key Risk & Conflict Dynamics
Fiduciary & Regulatory Scrutiny: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations require independent Medicare brokers to provide objective, unbiased recommendations tailored to beneficiary needs. Ownership by a primary carrier creates inherent structural tension between neutral advisory duties and corporate earnings objectives.”

@dw Help me to better understand, is there a conflict of interest between Humana and Reliance Medicare Helpline (reliancemedicarehelpline.com) that is owned and operated by Innovative Financial Group (IFG)?

@dp Strategic & Regulatory Overview of IFG / Humana Ownership

  1. Operational Overview
    • Entity Relationship: Reliance Medicare Helpline (reliancemedicarehelpline.com) is owned and operated by Innovative Financial Group (IFG). IFG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Humana, following its acquisition in August 2022.
    • Functional Role: IFG functions as a Field Marketing Organization (FMO) and independent brokerage, maintaining distribution contracts with multiple Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement carriers (including Humana, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Cigna).
  2. Key Risk & Conflict Dynamics
    • Fiduciary & Regulatory Scrutiny: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations require independent Medicare brokers to provide objective, unbiased recommendations tailored to beneficiary needs. Ownership by a primary carrier creates inherent structural tension between neutral advisory duties and corporate earnings objectives.
    • Market Perception & Steering Concerns: Operating consumer-facing channels under neutral branding (e.g., "Reliance Medicare Helpline") creates potential reputational risk if beneficiaries perceive the channel as independent while the backend distribution model favors the parent entity.
    • Distributor & Carrier Friction: Multi-carrier distribution models under single-carrier ownership often generate operational friction, leading to contracting disputes, agent terminations, and heightened anti-trust or non-compete scrutiny across competing health plans.
  3. Strategic Implications & Compliance Mandates
    • Regulatory Compliance: Strict operational firewalls and audited compliance protocols are required to prevent anti-competitive steering and ensure marketing compliance under CMS guidelines.
    • Industry Trend: The arrangement reflects broader healthcare vertical integration strategies aimed at capturing distribution channels, controlling acquisition costs, and retaining beneficiary lifecycles within the broader corporate ecosystem.

The problem is that capitalism views everything as solvable by capitalism. The issue in the implementation of capitalism here is the extreme cost cutting to the eventual degradation and race to the bottom in quality.

Things like healthcare, art, and others do not need to be a capitalist venture. They can use tools and implements created by capitalism, but they are inherently things that need to prioritize unprofitable things like healthcare, emotional impact of art, etc.

Basically, the west has made the mistake of building the capitalism hammer, and so everything looks like a nail now, when a sc--wdriver or glue is good enough for some situations.

Thus, late-stage corporate capitalism and the race to the bottom.
