Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Let the baggage go

Can we get rid of fake teams and fake jobs? We failed when we started allowing leaders to hire their friends, their cousins and their sons girlfriend. Interviews are just a check the box now. They know who they are gonna hire before they even post the job and we are posting jobs that are fake!

Then you have teams that are comprised of a bunch of project managers that have no clue what they are doing other than creating more work for those of us that have real sh** to do. If EH actually stuck his head in as an impromptu and started to look hard he could get rid entire teams that are worthless.

@r8 you are one of the Koolaid drinkers. Understandable that you wasted your time to fact check the stats on an anonymous post. You must have a lot of REAL work to do. Do better.

@de And you obviously do not work at Nike since you don't even know what the channels are called.

For real though, after everyone bi--hing about some of those channels, I checked how often people were posting and it was surprisingly low, as even the most prolific users were averaging less than one post a day. Given it takes about 30 seconds to make a long slack comment or a half dozen short replies, I think the people complaining about those people are the real problem. Bi--hing and moaning because someone spends < 5 minutes a day socializing when id--ts like you are probably spending hours chatting or going to the gym tells just how bitter some people can be.

@ds How can someone be considered an expert level only 10 years out of college, really? What have you done that was so spectacular from years of experience. Sadly this is the norm at Nike. Expert PMs 10ish years out of college uses chat gpt for market research, current in market trends not future, for products that wont be in market for another year. The company chasing everything in every product space not even about sport and athletes. No wonder Nike is tanking, watch the stock continue to tank.

The “expert” roles are excessive and expendable. What’s that even mean? I want to be an “expert”

"If you’re selling sh-t on slack you might be expendable.
If you’re a financial advisor on slack you might be expendable.”

LOL this person most certainly works here. Looking at you alt-personal-finance and alt-classifieds

For as long as the Indian cliques exist within GT, there is nothing to get rid of.

If you’re having book club during work hours you might be expendable.
If you’re selling sh-t on slack you might be expendable.
If you’re a financial advisor on slack you might be expendable.
If you were in SRE and didn’t get laid off, you are expendable.
If you are a current tech leader, you are expendable.

@OP If anyone knows of hiring friends and family over the Nike corporate hiring process you should speak up they are breaking corporate policy. This happens all over Nike from Marketing to Product Creation. You the Nike population enable these behaviors. Tell EH, although he iz just milking his paycheck now with lack of strategy. I agee EH needs to fully immerse himself in the teams to understand the work environments and stop relying on his ovwr staffed VLs and traveling the globe playing ambassador. Do the right thing people.

@a5 Are you talking about SC, that starry eyed young engineer drunk on the Koolaid who makes working at Nike her entire personality.

There are teams in ITC who have no purpose other than getting hired to backfill headcount that were laid off in PHK. All they do is have offsites and office potlucks. When you try to get a hold of them, it takes days to respond.

Fire all the Social Media Influencers at Nike and deny them zero unemployment benefits. Too many Influencers, like all of them are posting all day long at Nike and not working. Nike should seek help in identifying Influencers by setting up a hot line to call to report them.

@OP, that would be perfectly reasonable, assuming people were actually in the office, working, and contributing something. Swing by LBJ any day except Friday and you’ll find an inspiring display of empty desks and world-class invisibility. Apparently, “providing value” is now an optional part of employment. Ultimately, that culture won’t just sink the ship, it’ll enthusiastically drill the holes first.
