Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Interns given preference

What amazes me is that interns with no experience are being given preference over people with actual work experience in different parts of the business for roles in various areas like asset management, risk, etc.

So even if someone doesn’t have experience in the area and have been at Fidelity for 5 years, they would rather hire an intern with no experience for a role in that area. You can’t easily move around here.

@16s

Being a LEAPer isn't always that great. Sometimes you get put on business units where you're not doing the type of work that you were hired for.

The nepotism claim is ridiculous cope. I interned at Fidelity this summer as a software engineer intern and while I wasn't friends with everyone, I don't know a single person who was a "nepo". They were all quite competent.

The truth is, it just isn't that hard to get an internship Fidelity. It's not a prestigious company. The interviews are easy af and you don't need to be a nepo to get a job here. But maybe because most of them are indian you guys assume they're nepos. But most CS students in Dallas are Indian, that's just how it is

They’ve always been treated incredibly well. They’re almost always relatives of employees, if not other acquaintances.

I graduated from college four years ago and am now in my fourth year of being an intern, I report to a svp and we go on business trips together. I love that I only have to work when we travel and everything else is work from home. I love this place

fidelity hemorrhages talent, so the interns are more skilled than most senior/principal level

Hiring freeze does not impact intern or leap

Interns cost less and are easier to train. As they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Plus they probably have no kids so they have more free time to make work their life. Also they are ignorant af so it's the best time to abuse that new job honeymoon phase.
