Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

AI is coming for your job

For the past couple years I have been working on AI projects that have been kept silent because they will be replacing a lot of jobs/people on campus. Get your money right and prepare yourself. They don’t care about you.

I don’t think you can call it fear-mongering anymore if it’s actually happening..

It's almost impossible to believe now, but I remember a time when the company was very reluctant to enter the desktop computer age and implement interoffice e-mail. Then when the Internet came along, it required a VP's approval to grant Internet access to an employee who needed it. May still be the same for all I know.

It really should replace all the indians and msp. Most of them just follow a checklist and even then cant understand it. At least a machine makes consistent mistakes that can be corrected and not random logic mistakes.

@OP Depends on what your job is.

If your job is updating spreadsheets and talking into a laptop (or if you’re some di-----k middle-manager) then yeah, AI is coming for your job. If you’re an expert in your field and you have to apply judgement regularly then you’re mostly safe.

I really don’t think the fear-mongering around AI is productive. All it does is discourage people from adopting and applying the tools.

Isn’t that what AEST? Offshore it until AI can do it and then replace all but the ones on the valves?

"Based on a McKinsey study, nearly 70% of oil & gas companies still haven't moved beyond the pilot phase with their digital and AI initiatives."
