Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Bank of America being stricter on WFH policy

Seems like employees received an email where they can no longer work 2 consecutive days WFH and need to be in the office for a 'full day'.... will TIAA be next? Anyone here have any insights or heard anything?

@13g I’m the one that wrote that comment. I’m black, so there’s that. Get your shine box.

@tt Installing monitors in booths doesn't mean employees will have to sit in them all day. I'm sure you thought you were clever with your little references to shoe shines and tap dancing, instead you're just screaming "IM A RACIST WITH NO CREDIBILITY."

This again? Look. If TIAA was going to follow BofA then they wouldn't have closed the Denver office and severed, Accentured, or relocated over a thousand associates.

Republic Plaza (where many of Denver staff worked in before moving a half a block over to the Broadway building) is about to lose a major tenant, as Bank of America’s Colorado office is set to move from the building to another location in Upper Downtown at Block 162, a newer tower at 675 15th St. next to the Denver Pavilions, in October.

Here's another "crazy" idea. If you don't like showing up for work on your employers terms, then either, A) find an employer who will let you run the company while they take all the responsibility for your decisions, B) Start your own company where you can make all the decisions (and live with the results or C) Live at home with your parents and play fortnight all day like Chaz from Wedding Crashers.....but don't be one of those losers who whines and complains all the time about the way your employer runs the company, but never quite has the ba--s to give them an ultimatum because its easier to "quiet quit" and coffee badge. Good luck whining, loser. Let's see how that works out for your career and your family.

@qn do you hear yourself? Do you really think having someone sit in a cramped booth for entire day is fair?

You sound like you have no transferable skills and you’re lying to yourself.

Equating someone’s desire to work because they want a desk and not a booth is asinine. T-Duck needs her shoes shined, so you better get tap dancing on over there!

@qn This is the most “I’m a director with no direct reports” thing I’ve ever read. Do the other worthless middle managers in your fifth zoom meeting about nothing today know that you in here? Back to your “job” that produces absolutely nothing tangible.

@pj get over yourself. There’s a reason why they call it work. If you want to work from home on your own terms, then you better have some highly valuable skills that other people don’t. So sick of mediocre people who think they’re some sort of Silicon Valley Venture capitalist. Go be a dog walker if you can’t be inconvenienced to hold an office job from a (gasp!)….actual office. You can get mad at me if you want, but I’m telling you reality. Employees don’t set the terms and conditions of their jobs unless they are irreplaceable. Nobody at TIAA is irreplaceable. Grow up or get out. You ain’t all that.

It really doesn't matter what other companies do, the TIAA Charlotte campus was designed for WFH and there is not enough space to house the entire population for 5 days/week. If they start redoing spaces to squeeze in more cubicles, the we can get back to this subject.

@ct agreed. Stop posting nonsense OP... TIAA is not a bank and will not follow BofA.

However that said they will probably follow JPMorgan because TBD loves Jamie Dimon. That is to say if she doesn't straight up allow JPM to buy TIAA for pennies on the dollar.

If Jamie Dimon thinks workers should be in office five days per week, every company will follow suit. All these CEOs kiss his a**, especially TDuck

@OP Bank of America’s new policy is real, per employee reports. the expectation is still 3 days in office, but with no consecutive WFH days — Friday/Monday counts as consecutive — and a full day in office when there. A more recent thread adds detail on the formal rollout: 3 non-consecutive days for cube-assigned staff, 4 days for those with offices, with attestation required, with a start date reportedly announced for mid-September. The stated driver is real estate utilization metrics, not just RTO pressure for its own sake.

On TIAA specifically — nothing concrete yet, but there’s active chatter. speculation is that TIAA may move to a 4-day in-office policy, possibly timed after the Denver office closure, with major announcements typically dropping in August historically. That’s speculation, not confirmed policy — worth treating as forum rumor rather than fact.

The pattern across financial services in 2026 does seem to be tightening (BofA, and reportedly others), which raises the odds TIAA follows given they’ve already cited real estate consolidation (Frisco/Charlotte build-out, Denver closure) as a cost lever. But there’s no confirmed TIAA announcement mirroring BofA’s specific “no consecutive days” rule as of now.

Morale at TIAA is pretty bad. They would be foolish to make a change to the WFH policy.

But if their desire is to see attrition then they will change it. Time will tell.

I haven’t heard anything but I noticed that they installed monitors in some of the “booths” in my area. First thing I thought of was they are about to change the policy and they know they don’t have enough seats for everyone.
