Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is Ford hiring any non-visa people?

I read that GM is hiring a lot of the older engineers that Ford fired.

Are you seeing Ford hiring any non-visa people?

Any older people like GM?

I just checked engineering jobs posting on Ford’s external website.

For the keyword I chose, about 20 openings popped up, but about half were in Bengaluru, India.

No, because all of the hiring managers are on visa.
Working at Ford was an eye opener for me. I worked in a lab of over 50 people and I was one of 4 Americans there.

Every person I hear talk about Ford, I make sure they know it's not an American company.

I make sure they know how experienced American engineers are constantly laid off while random people on H-1B are getting jobs because the lost their old job and needed something to stay in the country, no experience necessary.

Doubtful. What I can tell you is happening is they are retaining employees with rejection anxiety. Management has no clue what it is, they don’t even really talk about it, but they protect their own, that’s always the case.

It’s about 10:00 on a SATURDAY night and I get a rejection text for a job I applied for at Ford.

@nj I enjoy watching Ford crash and burn because of their views of keeping senior and knowledgeable engineers. Stoopid is as stoopid does. Pass the popcorn please.🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥🔥!

If Ford isn’t hiring older workers even though they are applying, some lawyer should be up Ford’s shorts with some sort of age discrimination lawsuit.

Every older person should apply for a job there, especially American citizens, just to establish the pattern of age discrimination.

@cz

Yeah..but why, prove to whom, for what?

Prove to an already pathetic company culture that they were wrong? It's what they do. I guess if it make ya feel better....

@fd So Ford won’t hire anyone over 50?

Anyone seen them hire any U.S. citizen over 50 years old in the last 5 years?

There’s “in-group preference” hiring, for sure, but there’s also “out-group firing”.

They figure out a way to retain people of their same ethnic group. Except for the non-DEI managers. They don’t do that.

@fa Oh, they'll hire, they'll also layoff. This is the mind of JF. We're hiring like gangbusters, note how old those folks are....

@a8

“In-group preferential hiring is legal for any group except non-DEI people.”

That’s sarcasm, right? Because the government won’t do anything about “in-group preferences” for hiring unless it’s a non-DEI manager that does it?

I get job posting notices from LinkedIn for Ford all the time.

If there’s a hiring freeze, why to they post so many job openings?

@dg month or two, other areas too, looking to hit year end targets for headcount, pray for attrition

In PD I've only seen younger engineers hired lately. Now there is a hiring freeze

@cc Maybe she doesn’t want to go back to Ford. Maybe she just wants to prove they were wrong when they fired her with the excuse that the company didn’t need her skills and abilities ever again.

To answer the original question, no. Ford is only hiring H1B people. The only exception to this is when AI gets everything wrong and then they have to rehire older (i.e.: real) engineers to fix it.

@cc The question remains: Is Ford hiring any non-visa people like GM is?

In the words of my old LL1, you may be qualified, but I need my team to look like the world. Wait I ask, don’t you mean you mean the pool of qualified applicants, no he replies.

@OP

Fired from Ford or GM? Why would you want to go back? Should you feel you have no other choices rather than go back to an employer that discarded you, well therein lies your real problem.
