North Sea Ring Fence

Does anyone have a scooby what’s happening with the ring fence for Aberdeen folk? I’m in it and don’t want to be. What are the chances that I get saved to work something else or get to move to a different location?

I believe you can be working 100% currently North Sea in BP Stupid Solutions.
The role is part of the sale.
But some Central Solution person is Made Redundant so can apply for North Sea position...and score higher and get it.

There are 2 x processes happening.

Your name is not on the sales brochure. Your position is.

@gf they have office in London but no operating assets in England so you can have an office in Aberdeen without operating assets in Scotland.

Especially if you happen to be a technical expert supporting projects in Azerbaijan, Egypt, M&S etc.

@hf

So if you are working from Aberdeen on NZT for example, which is not part of the proposed sale, then you cannot just be transferred over as it is not legal - they would be transferring you without a role to go to. Thats constructive dismissal.

Therefore there is a process underway, where DMs and VPs are checking people who are split across regions to see if they need to be retained or not, based on role and where their time gets booked.

If everyone automatically just transferred then there wouldn’t need to be a process would there?

Hence why a large cohort of people not getting informed on ring fence status until 21-Aug.

Then, after the sale goes through, there will inevitably be some Aberdeen based folk still working for BP, who will need an office!

So likely Dyce will go but there will be some sort of small office in Aberdeen to house them.

As for the long term, if you are Aberdeen based and working for BP you are probably front of the queue for redundancy but that’s a different story.

There are still BP people with Grangemouth home locations 🙈

Many operators still have a presence in the area despite not operating in the NS.

@fz those supporting other regions e.g M+S ops in Aberdeen are not in the ring fence but those doing global roles in Aberdeen that don’t work the assets are included despite not working directly on assets.

@fz maybe in the interim but it will be transition out. What would be the need for an Aberdeen office without the NS assets?

Some may be saved from the ring fence and offered jobs, but they won't be in Aberdeen

@f4 no it doesn’t, if you don’t work on the assets then you can’t be sold with the asset, it’s illegal!

M&S Ops are in Aberdeen for example they won’t be sold with the business.

People in projects who support multiple regions going through process.

BP will still have Aberdeen based employees even after the NS is sold.

@dx ringfence includes everyone working North Sea region including central teams. It also includes those based in Aberdeen working global roles.

@a8 other operators have been trying to divest their North Sea assets for years..!

@dx no

There are plenty folks who have received letters for redundancy recently and if they survive that it’s straight into ring fence.

For those not in Aberdeen can you give more detail what you were told? Does ring fenced mean you aren’t in the 8% company wide cut?

Afraid to say, unless you work for multiple regions in BP and therefore have a global, not North Sea focused role, then you are very likely sold with the company. And if that was the case you wouldn’t already be ring fenced.

Your best chance of staying with BP is they don’t find a buyer I’m afraid.
