Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Remote jobs

I'm not sure why, but remote jobs have started popping up in my feed again, and not bad ones. I'm tempted to start applying, if I can get the courage. The devil I know still seems better than the devil I don't, but I miss WFH so much that it could push me to go for it.

@16a Schwab Wealth Advisory is losing a lot of talented and industry tenured employees over RTO. Leadership has blatantly said they don’t care and expect this to happen. It’s fun and games until clients refuse to work with people in their 20s/early 30s. They should focus on retention of they are focusing on growing the entire company on the back of Wealth Advisors.

@1bs Not exactly, but understand and broadly agree with the sentiment. The problem is that younger generations DO NOT VOTE. They don't engage. And they proudly proclaim that they aren't INTERESTED in politics.

Laughable.

A bunch of scared, white haired folks who can't use an iPad have nothing better to do than remember separate drinking fountains while some 23 year old plays COD while saying they're too busy.

And then, just as you go to downvote this, you realize that millions of American boys (men in chronological age only) were convinced by right-wing losers that they could be ALPHAs if only they were more of a loser and holding more debt than the raised Ram pickup is worth.

It isn't the boomers that took everything good for them. It's also that the subsequent generations didn't call boomers out for being selfish while failing to stop them.

If you're unhappy and remote roles that interest you are available elsewhere, do yourself a favor and apply. Don't wait, every day of inaction is another day you let Rick & Co. drain your soul out of your body through overpriced amenities center slop bowls and the rare free ice cream.

Leaving for a better opportunity will reduce your personal stress, provide the flexibility and freedom you had during the integration years, and allow you to come read this board with a sense of relief rather than dread. Every quarter you wait is another risking RIF, regardless of output. With 30K+ employees, no one cares. The ones who miss you will keep in touch. Everyone else will fade into the background and you'll never suffer another meeting about having a meeting regarding the meeting you just had.

I've been gone a year and everything, including the pay, is better. Own your tomorrow by getting the TF out!

@gj Probably because the boomers have saddled us with multiple endless wars and mountains of debt that will burden our grandchildren's grandchildren. One single generation has dominated our political and business life for decades. They got everything they needed--cheap housing, plentiful jobs, affordable education--and they pulled up the ladder behind them. And they won't f*cking give up power.

We will eventually need to relax our RTO guidelines if we expect high talent.

@11s making a generalized but nevertheless factual statement doesn’t render one illiterate. No one actually reading that post would interpret “not failing” as “having the most money ever.”

@z0 Perhaps when you speak in sweeping generalities the point you are trying to make is lost on the less cerebral.

@mh This is actually unintentionally funny, you read the word “failing” and assumed it had anything to do with generational share of total wealth. That more or less sums up everything wrong with the Boomer generation more succinctly than I ever could.

One thing I can say is that, Schwab will backfill in GCC, not in the US. So they want you to leave.

@gx Wait… I can’t keep up. Boomers are failing yet have all the wealth. What is your opinion on GenX?

@h7 Your Honor, I rest my case.

@gj It is not hate, it is envy! Boomers have been able to build wealth, and secure their retirement through wise financial decisions, while younger generations spent their money on Starbucks, bottled water from France, designer sneakers, and Netflix.

@gj It would honestly take hours to go through all of the failings of the boomer generation. No single person is responsible and no group is a monolith, but as a whole boomers have been unimaginably short-sighted, and their positions on finance and economy are frankly naive and corrupted to the extreme. They collectively made poor choices valuing short-term profit and rampant consumerism, and as a result when their chickens came home to roost e.g. rampant deregulatory disaster rather than taking accountability they pointed the finger at younger generations and assigned blame due to lack of commitment. It doesn’t help that they hold a larger share of the country’s wealth than any before or since, and are utterly unassailable politically. As a whole they are the ones in almost complete control, and have been for decades.

It’s easy to see why people have distaste for boomers as a generation. They are one among few holding back substantive change in the nation, for better or worse. Whether they are right or wrong they are a roadblock, so everyone desperate to leave this predicament —and there are a lot of them and growing every day— are simply forced to wait for entropy to take its course.

@bh what is all the hate for the Boomers?

@bh Yeah, by the time that happens you’ll be a Boomer.

WFH will be the standard for most roles that can handle it, it is a matter of time. Might take some years for the boomers to croak but it’ll happen.
