No more Unlimited PTO?

I’ve been hearing rumors that they will be getting rid of unlimited PTO and going back to the traditional PTO system we had in the past. Is there any truth to this?

@ht interesting this seems to hit the nail on the head. Our director has been on at least 3 extended vacations (we heard cruises and the like) this year, like 3 weeks at a time, none of us get that amount of time off in a request - seriously weeks - - interesting all making sense to me now. Guess that is how the game is played. If it goes away and the vacations don't that will tell the tale. Incredible. When they forced us to roll over only 40 hrs that hurt me the most - one bout of early year illness wipes you out. Why only 40? And yes I know there are states that force $ payout of PTO but really? #hatethisplace is trending

I took all of my PTO when I had a set amount. Rolled over to unlimited, only take three weeks (had five before). I’d prefer the old way.

@f7 There are E14s on my team that only have to go in one day a week. I think it is more certain titles not grade level. If you have director in your title with or without direct reports that is when you are required in office 3 days a week I believe. Unless of course leadership made you exempt for favoritism reasons.

@OP Directors and above had unlimited PTO for several years and even Managers did not know about it - so if they take it away it will likely not be advertised that will not impact Directors and above. You will know when they continue to take 3+ weeks off at a time multiple times a year for nice trips etc. Holidays are coming and it is time to tighten the belt and make sure only special people get endless time off. This place is a bed of lies and favortism

If E13s go to unlimited PTO next year, does that mean they will have to start going into the office 3 days a week instead of 1?

@ax - “ there is a VERY real probability that grade 13’s will move to unlimited PTO in 2027”

Can you expand on this? Is it M13, E13, all 13, etc?

Unlimited PTO is unfair to the people who have to pick up the slack for the people who do. Good get rid of it.

I highly, highly doubt this is true, as unlimited PTO saves the company money as it pertains to states that require a payout upon departure. I think it's more likely that they'll continue to expand it until ultimately, only hourlies bank.

From what I have heard (from multiple sources) the opposite is the case. There is a VERY high probability that grade 13s will move to unlimited PTO in 2027. This is to be decided soon as it would be part of the new benefit design rolled out in Q 4.

I keep a running tabulation of the amount of PTO I would have earned. I stay within that. I may exceed it come Christmas but then they too 13 hrs from me so oh well

@a3 I have never had an issue taking all of the PTO I would have taken previously. Some years I have taken a little less and some more based on my personal needs without worrying about needing to get it done by end of the year. And the same for those on my team who have unlimited PTO.

Unlimited PTO anyways guilt trip me to take multiple PTOs. With my old PTO balance, i can always use it before end of the year so that i dont lose it.
24 days + 2 flex days. I dont think I can take 26 days with unlimited PTO.

I would welcome the old way.
