Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Above Average Mid-Year Rating

Curious if any other Discover legacy people received an Above Average rating during the mid year calibration

With another year or so of integration still ahead of us, I’m also wondering how much value these elevated ratings actually carry if Capital One ultimately eliminates your team or role? Are they taken into consideration when applying for internal positions or being considered by other teams?

Good on you for getting a high rating, it’s not easy to do. It will absolutely be a differentiator if you apply for a different role.

In most groups it’s simply not true that a below strong results in an automatic PIP and term. If you haven’t had prior performance management you’ll likely start at a lower step, it varies by group.

Don’t believe the hyperbole from employees that were pip’d out for performance. It makes these employees that couldn’t keep up with 85-90% of their peers and failed to improve when they were put on performance management feel better about themselves to come on here and tell each other that they’re not the problem.

Layoffs su-k and that’s too bad. From what I’ve observed they can be either in whole departments despite ratings, or a department reduction that is more likely to be rating based. No idea what the official process is.

My wife who is a sr. Assc is being put on PIP. Not for performance, she got a strong but they’re saying she’s getting a below strong in competencies. She’s been with Cap one for 10 years and has never fell below a strong before.

@ee I'm not sure how you're so sure about that, but there are plenty of people who were graded below strong and haven't been put on a PIP.

Again. An OVERALL rating of "Below Strong" is a PIP and firing. Nothing else matters.

As a manager I can confirm all below strongs were let go within our department. 15 percent dropped, likely will happen eoy as well but no formal confirmation on that.

I had a strong rating, but my role was still eliminated today with some other DFS Legacy peers.

Those of us who scored above strong are just less likely to be let go in the layoffs, and eligible for promotion if available. The whole PIP thing is outrageously loud, seems to be one or two people doing most of those posts here so I wouldn't worry too much about it, CapOne would be out of employees in the hiring pool if they terminated 12500 people a year like this one guy is claiming.

Any overall score of below Strong will put the person on a PIP to be fired. That's it.
