State of Nike solely on Innovation

If we had products people wanted to buy would we be in this situation? If we were selling products hands over fists, a lot of the issues we see today would be swept under the rug.

Placing the state of Nike right now solely on the whole innovation team for not creating or bringing to market anything that customers remotely want for the last I don’t know how many years. The last wave of Nike innovation was arguably 2017-2019 when we dropped zoomx/vaporfly/react?

I’d just wipe out that whole org, anyone a part of product design, product innovation, etc and start from scratch. Poach people from our competitors who are actually growing. Genuinely curious what people in product design/innovation have been doing the last 5+ years.

@v9, you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about, but I admire the confidence it takes to advertise that so publicly. “Innovation” has become a bloated corporate bureaucracy with more directors directing other directors than people capable of doing the actual work.

The LeBron James Innovation Center doesn’t need another strategy deck, leadership summit, or ceremonial reorganization, it needs to be gutted and rebuilt from scratch. At this point, it represents less of an innovation engine and more of an extraordinarily expensive monument to corporate vanity.

Do you have any idea what it costs simply to keep that architectural ego trip operating? The building burns through money while producing meetings, titles, self-congratulation, and PowerPoints explaining why genuine innovation remains perpetually “in progress.” It’s not an innovation center; it’s a taxpayer-free corporate welfare program for overpaid professional spectators. The only thing that place has successfully disrupted is Nike’s operating budget.

Something makes it from innovation, inline takes all the credit. Something fails from innovation, blame innovation. Rinse repeat.

Innovation at Nike is a bloated, decomposing corporate carcass being dragged through meetings by people too spineless to admit it’s already fu--ing buried. Burn the corpse and stop calling the smoke “strategy.” Time to start over folks.
