They can't keep cutting forever, eventually there won't be anyone left to cut. But even if it does stop, is there any reason to stay? Whoever's left will just be expected to do the all the work of everyone who was cut, for the same pay. I don't see a happy ending here.

Headcount accelerated downward starting in early 2023—falling from roughly 104,722 in January 2023 down to below 90,000 by late 2025/2016, compounded by historic layoff rounds like the 13,000-job cut under Dan the Rusty Hatchet Man.
@dz Yep. I started in '01 and the first layoff I experienced was just a few months after I was hired. We've had them quarterly, every six months, every year, while frequency changes here and there, layoffs have not stopped.
Never ! been here since 2000 and every year its been the same. However every other year or so its a big push out the door...
I hear the sentiment, but I still genuinely enjoy my job and have no intentions of leaving in our current environment

AT&T has had significant layoffs twice a year (minimum) for over 30 years. You think there is "an end?"
@av It makes a big difference if the total is 130k employees (2020) or 85k (2026) when hundreds are laid off quietly (slowly dripping to avoid WARN) or a few thousands every quarter

Ofc u R right. This isn't the first rodeo, great companies come and go, as much as we may hope so, Verizon is not forever. Just ask Nortel, Enron, Lehman, the list is endless.
Just make sure you're not the one turning off the lights and your severence cheque clears.
