Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Internal mobility for higher roles is a scam

It's waste of time. I applied for over 80+ positions in the past 4 years, for promotion roles. I got few responses and like may be 5 or 6 initial interviews. Except one position, I am pretty sure that all other interviews are fake and they just interviewed me for documentation purposes.
Everything else is an automatic rejection email. Internal mobility for higher roles is a SCAM!

Since Citi is Broke A$S Poor, Citi reduced In-seat promotions and mobility TO 5% of the employee population starting around 2022.

Of course, this drives out to Quit/Resign, the best employees Rated 1s/2s. The employees who remain @Citi are the mediocre to low caliber that keeps Citi Dysfunctional, chaotic and FUBAR Fvcked Up Beyond All Recognition & Help. A lost cause.

About 3 years ago a Rated 1/2 employee Quit to go to Goldman Sachs and today, has tripled her base salary. And this is before bonuses!

When she handed in her resignation letter, Citi and her manager begged her to stay and uncharacteristically gave her a counter-offer at her new salary even though officially, Citi has a HR policy of Not giving counteroffers.

She wisely declined. And No, she has Not been laid off @Goldman because she's that good, skilled and competent.

Citi's loss = Goldman Sachs' gain. LOL!

@b9 The SAD and STUPID thing about Citi-- is--you have to-LEAVE-to be compensated..punishment for staying and less valued...

TheBrit writes a universally truthful informative post which gets down voted by clueless people unable to even consider putting themselves into the hiring manager's shoes for even one moment. Good luck in your careers folks.

As a long time leader at Citi - first, I can only speak for CISO/IT orgs (and not all of IT) in that there are a lot of cr-p leaders (like in any organisation). However, there are a lot of good leaders who (like me) promoted internal mobility upwards and lateral (to broaden experience), I/we always saw it as a postitive all around for employees, to see a clear progression of your peers is motivating etc. Now, what I will say is every time I posted a job of any level I'd be flooded, and when interviewing I'd say "why did you apply?" and it would be anything from "I hear what you do is cool" to "I don't like what I'm doing" - in other words, there was no effort put in by them prior - no attending of events, no networking or engagement so if you're doing that it is like cold calling on the telephone - the success rate is minisucle and there are many people who have both the experience / effort in prior who are just much more suitable candidates. While all positions were advertised, yes some we had an idea of the person/persons we thought were ready for it because they had bothered ahead of time.

For every role posted, HR requires hiring managers to interview at least 3 candidates minimum. First hand experience, the hiring managers already have someone in mind by the time the role is posted. Could be an internal promotion for someone on the team already, could be an external hire that they interviewed previously. Usually it's a personal connection from their caste that is giving them kickbacks in india. They are just going through the motions to meet HRs requirement. I was stunned when the head of group told us to hire their friend that had less experience and qualifications than a monkey in a suit. I briefly thought about opening an HR ethics complaint, but then realized there are no ethics at citi and the head of our group would 100% retaliate. F*ck this place.

Exactly. The Only way UP, is OUT of Citi.

Internal employees have a better chance of getting hired EXTERNALLY BY A NEW COMPANY, than by Citi, whether it's an In-seat Promotion or New Job.

You need to get sponsorship from senior leaders for C14 or higher to even have a chance. I opened a C14 role in my team and had over 300 applications in 36 hours. We pulled 8 people into first round interviews and 5 came through internal referrals where an MD vouched for a candidate. You need to take career into own hands and have people reach out to HR and hiring manager to even have a chance for an interview.

@b1

But the worst part is NOT only do you ONLY GET a Slap in the Face 👋🧐 10% 💵 salary increase, if or when you finally get the C14 / C15 / C16 job Or In-Seat promotion its Fvcken Years Later.

NO one wants to wait years or Never to finally land an internal C14 / C15 / C16 job and to add insult to injury, Get Only a BullSh!t 10% 💵salary increase!

An In-Seat Promotion delayed, is an In-Seat Promotion Denied ! All while Citi Stalls the employees and continues to Dangle 🥕 the Fake Promotion Carrot in the Employees' Faces to Stall the employees from Quitting/Resigning !

Be aware of when you're being played for a Fool !🤡🃏

The reality is that many employees treat it as a short cut to promotion and are completely unqualified for the position. That means that qualified employees get passed over because the assumption is that you cannot get promoted in seat, and if you're that good...why can't you get promoted in seat? Unfortunately when 800 people apply to every C14/15/16, it's luck of the draw or connections.

Yep. You need to know somebody who knows somebody, but eventually you will get it; it takes a lot of work and relationship building. The best part is that when you finally make it, you get just 10% more.

Internal mobility is a myth today. It is the same across all banks, not only Sh---y. Just due to the fact that they are spoiled for choice plus the lack of transferable skills / institutional knowledge really - BS jobs can be done by anyone, including nepos ..
