More people getting "the email" today, according to someone who survived Friday.

@q0 This makes sense and there were good people that left other departments and aero the first half of the year. I do not think RR will stay with a team of incompenets and leftovers. He is too young to retire and he has left Hughes before, and comtech, and carnival cruise lines, etc. He is good and it will not help aero or hughes if that happens. But given the across the board slashing that happened friday i don't think echostar gives a damn.

@mv I believe only 6 were impacted in it but many good folks have already left in last few months, it is mostly left of the rejects who were transferred from other teams and very incompetent. Reza is great but everyone under him are useless. They were mostly spared as they have contract obligations but it is just revenue but no profit margin .. they will not get any new contracts - so it is better for rest all folks to leave at soon as they can

@mv yes. Consumer generates a lot of revenue and cash flow and was largely gutted.

How is Reza’s Aero group impacted? That is one of the few places making money for the company. I assume Reza is still there. Are they cutting in departments that are actually generating revenue?

They also gutted consumer. No one left to lead agents in the call centers. Some special project agents completely lost all corporate contacts. If you're a residential customer just get starlink. There is no one left to help you.

@k6, enterprise support got gutted. I'm not sure how Hughes will continue to support the field teams effectively.

this is end of the road for enterprise business particularly managed services, they laid off key operations people and I have no idea how things will work going forward. If you are a hughes enterprise customer, dump them asap to protect your network and customer data.

@fb I loved my job and enjoyed the culture of the people of Hughes. From a workforce standpoint, of my 25 year career in various companies, Hughes people were the best. Pradman (rest in peace) fortified that family care to everyone, and in turn we brought that to our customers.

That culture went their separate ways yesterday and is now the end of an era of a fantastic workforce.

@dw it was a group dismissal in waves by org and dept. Some people had to go to front auditorium. Some had to go to a conference room. It was every hour or half hour starting at 9am. Our VP told us the company made "the difficult decision to eliminate all of your positions". He said that we would have until the end of the day to turn in our badge. There was one HR rep in the room. The VP was near tears. We were told we would be paid, but not required to come to work, until 9/22 and to update our emails with the Hr rep in the room so they could send us info about cobra etc.

I'm probably one of the few people who loved my job. I wish it had not come to this.

@f5 , Hossein running the company? He’s part of the management that has brought HNS to this disaster. But on the other hand if this company is a sinking ship, he would be just as good of a useful id--t as any to steer it to the ocean bottom.

@f7 exactly. In most companies when sales people cannot make their quota they are fired. Our sales people sit in the office most days and revise down their quotas throughout the year. Forecasts are mostly bs hence the yearlong revisions. End of year, rinse repeat. Year after year. Couple this with offering products no one wants and here we are.

@f1 yeah it seems they just want to keep it running till the last 1$ profit and then liquidate it

@ex , I don’t think the intention is to replace these people. There are too many that have been shown the door - senior level management- for that to make any sense. Possibly they’re going to liquidate the company entirely? I’d like to see how this plays out to understand what the endgame is for this level of firings.

@d2 Charlie spent his money and time chasing 5g network that too at the last moment. He was just sitting on spectrum doing nothing over those years. He is the one to be blamed.

@b0 what did the Email say? How were you told you were laid off, and by whom, your Manager or Hughes HR dept or someone else. Was it a group dismissal or one on one. We are all very concerned about our colleagues and want to know how this was handled.

Hughes' engineering team has totally lost its mojo. Look at all the satellite comms startups right now—they’re packed with young kids who have the drive, crazy ideas, and the guts to actually build stuff. Hughes is basically a sinking Titanic these years, and honestly, you can't put all the blame on Charlie. This whole 'boomer mentality' in our corporate culture is what ki-led our competitive edge.
