Thread regarding Mutual of America Life layoffs

A Simple Request

"The purpose of this site is to provide a space for anyone who'd like to discuss the possibility, likelihood or impacts of layoffs in a company of interest." - TheLayoff.com

It is not supposed to be a revenge site where people go to post rumors, speculation, lies, or even truths about other things. It isn't a suggestion box or anonymous tip line. So I am respectfully asking those of you who have forgotten the reason why this website exists to please stop hijacking it to promote other agendas. The noise is drowning out the information this site is supposed to provide. Thanks.

@tk my wife works at a nyc based firm & she says that they source they IT to India, Pakistan, & Romania. Requests take twice as long & often the work has to be reworked. So, if you have an competent stateside engineer, UX, or programmer who can do jobs for more $ but it is better quality in half the time, then it cancels out any potential benefit if shipping the job to New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai. We see that w/FiS now. We pick up the slack as they are not fulfilling their basic obligations. Whether you pay Business Class Fares or Basic Economy for Indian based IT, it does not matter. The jobs take twice as long & the quality is still not there.

@OP there are always the same two downvoters on most of these posts. which SVPs or above are the downvoters ? Downvote means the post is true & you can’t find a way to deal with it psychologically because what you believe has been proved wrong.

  1. What is being done to replace the Field Leadership overseeing Sales & Service ? Nearly 40 Sales Reps are on pace to miss goal by a huge margin. What is being done to fire those people & save $5M per year ? When will you go to a low incentive environment for field sales like most other companies ?

  2. When will you provide additional administrative support to the Client Relationship Managers who are drowning & your team has done absolutely nothing to provide each of them administrative support while client losses continue ?

  3. When will you disclose C-Suite compensation & Board pay to your employees & retirees ? When will you get rid of special incentive comp plans for Executives, Capital Management, & Field Sales Reps ?

  4. What is the gameplan for raising revenue instead of relying on cuts ? When will managed accounts be rolled out, in plan annuities, 401k brokerage accounts, raise monthly participant charges, raise plan pricing by 20 bps to compensate for no surrenders on IAA ? You can’t cut your way to profitability.

  5. When will employee benefits be improved & not continuously cut ?

  6. When will the company stop giving away corporate donation money like it is growing on trees & flushing $ down the toilet while being forced to layoff 200 staff ?

@gn deeply concerning because it is rumored that they use Chinese Deepseek technology which is fed into Beijing. It’s anyone guess how much info will end up on the Dark Web in a couple of yrs. Our own internal audit & CISO doesn’t let anyone film screens of PII let alone onTeams calls.

@er workplace psychological safety run amok. EAP on high alert. PTSD is sky high. Think about it. How would you feel if you had to train your replacement who you knew who had a lower IQ than you, had less education than you, and was 30% slower and less productive. It’s enough to cause one to strangel that King Cobra or Mamba.

@by As someone who is forced to be part of the Accenture trainings, I can confirm that they are going to have access to a concerning amount of PII and sensitive client information. They actually record all the sessions with their AI tools too so the sensitive information is being fed to that too. Honestly if anyone here is a former employee with assets still with MOA, move them out ASAP

@er client attrition is accelerating again. It’s not only employee attrition. It is client attrition. Not that clients or American employees matter anymore to the Board or C-Suite

@c5 the burnout is 100% by design. MOA executives want high attrition rates so they can pocket the money saved on severance pay in order to give themselves higher inceptive comp.

@c0 All the affected employees need to really "quiet quit" you aren't responsible for making this transition work. Be a mercenary at MOA until you get laid off or get an offer somewhere else. You are in it for you and you only, this place is only a paycheck for you not a family anymore. Don't let this sh*t organization crash your mental health, do not let any company do that, but especially not MOA. They made their decision that y'all aren't worth it, they can suffer the consequence, just do not quit early make them pay their damn severance. Rich and the big boys can put up or shut up and figure it. Some of what they are doing to you is by design to force attrition to save some money on severance.

@OP My job is being eliminated. I work my butt off. Been underpaid for yrs. Now, I am being forced to do KT with with my replacement. It literally makes me sick. What also make me sick are these field sales reps who get to hold on to their jobs and they are not selling jack cr*ap ! Have you seen the numbers, many are way below goal. Been in the position for 2 yrs. Can’t carry their weight. Do nothing. Not productive at all. Getting paid $100K & there are 50 under goal ! WTF is wrong with this company ! Why are they not getting canned ! Shared sacrifice ! How about underperforming Capital Management. Why do they ALWAYS get a free pass. Rich is BIAS ! They severely underperform this year. The COO & CEO have it all backas:swards. Thinking is not logical. They are looking at this the wrong way. Plus this sales reps & cap management get quarterly bonuses ! That is biased & crazy.

When will the clients be told that mutual has shipped 150 jobs to India & that it is too expensive to do business in the USA ? Will they be told they are using Chinese Deepseek AI which is part & parcel of the Communist Regime in China. Will they be told that Indian nationals—unlicensed—and we have no way to verify their identities, criminal histories, real education histories, will have access to not only moa employee PII, retiree PII, Client PII.

how are we going to disclose the security control & processing controls to clients. Indians are not smarter than Americans. In fact, studies show avg Indian IQ is 82. With College education, it goes up to 96. USA, Average IQ starts at 102 and goes up to about 110 with college education. The point is that with every 1 point difference in IQ, productivity goes down by 5%. Now, my IQ is low but according to my math, that is over 30% less productivity right there ! So, you save 30% on labor, but is cancelled out by the 2 yr ramp up, and then the 30% decrease permanently kicks in from years 3-10+.

Plus, the turnover you will have will be 12,000 miles away. 1/2 day. Day versus night. Delays. Constant Turnover. A-s-s-centure has laid off a sh-it ton of people in India & their stock has tanked because their AI prowess has been exposed as not a strategic advantage. Say what you want, but this deal is deeply troubling on all levels. I hope the NYDFS has a few watch dogs watching hyper closely over all of this clusterFuxxx.

@at Current employee here: current employee here: I don't know who's saying we're "blessed" to work at MOA, but they must be working at a different company than I am. In over 30 years of working, I've never seen morale this low. I've updated my resume and I'm applying anywhere that'll have me. The workload has absolutely destroyed my mental health, and walking into work every day feels like walking into a place I don't even recognize anymore. I was raised to show up, work hard, and leave a place better than I found it, so I have no interest in sabotaging the company. That said, I also refuse to be held responsible for fixing problems created by people making six figures in an office somewhere. Good luck to the folks who stay.

@OP

You could whine impotently about what others do, sure. But that makes you look like a dou--e. You don't want to look like a dou--e, right?

So, you gotta be proactive. Be the change you want to see in the world. Put out so many high-quality posts and responses that the other stuff doesn't have a chance.

Your choice...

@OP, Who died and made you the site mod? If you'd just bothered to scroll past the first sentence on the homepage, you could've saved yourself some time.
For instance, you would've found that TheLayoff.com also says:

TheLayoff.com is for socializing, ideas and entertainment

TheLayoff.com is intended to be a place for socializing, user provided news, information and idea exchange, and entertainment.

And then, in the "Content Rules" section, it says:

@aj "Many" will quit mid knowledge transfer? Maybe, and if you are correct, it would explain at least partially why they "wasted no time with starting this." While getting terminated never feels good, having the option to keep working and get a paycheck for transitioning the work while also looking for a new job is better than not having that option. I'm not saying it is ideal and I'm not saying it was done out of charity - obviously it benefits the company too otherwise they wouldn't do it. It all breaks my heart too so let's hope we end up with a company that is stronger when this is done.

Hello here is your layoff update:
MOA is paying Accenture tons of money to outsource jobs
approx. 150-200 employees will be taken out back between October 2026 - April 2027
Those employees are expected to train there replacements
Many of said employees have been burned out and running on fumes ever since the March 2024 layoffs so the burn out has accelerated since this all started in June, expect attrition to start showing up this fall, many will quit mid knowledge transfer
Accenture wasted no time with starting this, less than a week after affect employees were informed they are being canned, the training process began
As a retiree from one of the affect areas, hearing all this breaks my heart
