Nutanix sales management missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with Broadcom acquiring VMware two-plus years ago. Nutanix executives and senior management absolutely failed at every turn to capitalize on their biggest competitor's challenges. Management's arrogance and lack of understanding of complex sales led to this layoff; nothing else. The AVP level and above needs to be gutted. The Board is complicit in allowing this incompetence to happen and continue for so long. The window to capture Broadcom low-hanging fruit is closed. In fact, Hoc Tan (Broadcom CEO) has turned the tables and is getting Nutanix kicked out of the few larger accounts they were in. Nutanix was already bleeding experienced, accomplished salespeople before the layoff; it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
There should be an MBA business school case study done on this company for having so badly missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

@OP - I too was recently affected but I'm not unhappy at all. They likely did me a favor since I no longer believed in the product I was supporting. Re-emphasizing on the OPs point, Nutanix has hugely missed its window to provide a meaningful alternative to VMware following Broadcom's acquisition. Their primary value proposition in helping customers migrate away from Broadcom because of costs is becoming stale as many customers either remain with VMware or have moved on entirely especially since Nutanix isn't much cheaper.
The core software remains plagued by bugs in AOS and AHV, forcing customers to rely on support calls rather than clear documentation. Internally, the company is weighed down by excessive leadership layers and a management team composed of "rejects" from Broadcom/VMware which made Nutanix lose it's magic. Most good talent has seen the writing on the wall and have already left or are looking to leave. As a matter of fact, the older employee's that stuck around for 5+ years are not growing their skills in any meaningful way and will struggle to find another competitive role when the next layoff cycles begins to which I'm positive will happen again in less than a year.
Given the hardware shortages also, their ability to pivot into a pure software company failed horribly over the last few years. I wish them luck but honestly the industry does not care about what Nutanix brings to the table and the street knows this which is why their valuation will never be close to what VMware was.
@b3 exactly this . As an ex nutanix employee , working there was one of the worst decisions I have made . I was laid off and needed a job but boy was that a mistake. Product that provide no value , one click was their mantra like huge dc are managed by clicks and not code.
This is because the Crown Jewel of the company (AOS) is powered by Google File System, which was EOL’d in 2013. Add the abject dog tu-d of Cassandra as the metadata layer with some bubble gum and baling wire, and you have what makes up the CVM. Trying to pivot on AHV will never work either because it was never meant to be revenue generating. I am honestly stunned every month they are still a thing. The founders rooked a lot of VCs and got out before the ship started listing.
