Why are directors getting axed? I thought hubs were safe. Why are they surprising folks? Did T target all pensioners or did they surplus non-pensioners too?

The layoffs going on right now are not related to RTO. They are performance based. Our org has people all over and we just lost 1 of 2 from Dallas.
Associate Director in some organizations were higher paid than the usual 2nd line title. Some even had 2nd lines reporting to them. Basically a 2.5 line.
They also like to protect those higher ups. Guess they think having the title, that they are "smart". Besides getting rid of a lot of directors, they are also demoting them back to level 2 "associate director"
Levels 3 and 4 need to be thinned out. Long overdue. They don’t do the actual work and have no clue what goes on in their organizations.
In the past Directors have always been one of the last levels to be hit. They stick around to do some of the grunt, and in some cases, dirty work. They know most of the cuts taking place in their organization. Most used to know when their time was up months ahead of time. Those who weren’t ready to go could bump down. However the way things are/have gone we don’t know what will happen. Plus in the old days, once the downsizing was done you could relax for awhile.
The only safer hub is Dallas, but no where is safe. Everywhere will be shuttered at some point, it’s just a matter of when. For some “hubs” it’s longer than others, but those will eventually be gone as well.
They need to remove AVPs, the worse and least effective layer... RIGHT J?
Most of the recent T layoffs have been towards employees who do not have direct reports, so now the focus is on consolidating these sales or support teams and as a result managers and directors are next on the chopping block and to be fair some orgs have already removed the director roll and have manager/teams aligning directly to an AVP / VP
These "Hubs" or "Centers of Expertise" are not safe. They are just delays in a plan already in motion. If you've been earmarked for surplus it is going to happen regardless of location. A hub just prolongs that eventuality because even in Ground Zero (Richardson) they are letting folks go left and right and bringing in cheaper, easier to manipulate replacements. Leadership here is RIPE with utter d-mbasses they've just brought in within the last 6 months. And yes I mean L2 and above. They keep shuffling them around hoping this dum--ss will make up for the firsts failures. Celeste has zero idea what she is ACTUALLY doing and it is showing like a bad dye job in the Texas heat.
Maybe a span of control issue. A director is supposed to have so many subordinates to justify the title. Once too many of their folks get laid off they don’t have the proper number, then it’s their turn on the block.
T has been laying off people every quarter since last 20 years. I always thought if I focused and delivered, I would never be affected. That focus and delivery tripled when RTO to hubs was announced and I thought they would keep me virtual forever like my peers. But I was too stupid to think that. Now my hand is forced to move and I can only oblige to disrupt everything because I couldn’t land another position. HIS will shall be carried over by the sheeps. Amen!
Statistically hubs are slightly safer than non-hubs. Neither are “safe’” goofball.
