Question……if centene was actually going to lay people off wouldnt they legally have to file a Warn Notice?? Do you think they’re trying to hide doing that with the VSP? Theres a lot of chatter about the week of the 10th being when theyll announce a layoff

Don't forget, the federal WARN act also has a provision for pay in lieu of WARN notice. They would owe you 60 days pay and full benefits if they meet the criteria for, but choose not to file a WARN notice. Individual states may have additional criteria
I asked AI, No new WARN notices for August 2026 — checked WARNTracker.com, which pulls from public state filings, and the most recent Centene entries are still Nov 2020–Dec 2025 . Nothing new has posted yet.
But here's a pattern worth taking seriously, sourced from posts on TheLayoff.com (anonymous, unverified) combined with WARNTracker's public filing data: multiple longtime employees say Centene "NEVER" hits WARN thresholds — same as UnitedHealthcare and Humana — and offer a theory why: so much of the workforce is remote that the WARN Act's plant-closing language may not clearly apply, and the company is headquartered in Missouri, which lacks its own state-level WARN law. One poster also claimed Centene has found ways around WARN before by keeping cuts under the 50-employee-per-state threshold — and since employees are scattered across states working remotely for teams based elsewhere, that's easy to do without ever triggering a filing.
Bottom line: absence of a WARN notice does NOT mean layoffs haven't started. That's the uncomfortable part.
Two caveats worth keeping attached to this if you share it:
1)This is a pattern I'm inferring from forum speculation about motive — Centene hasn't confirmed structuring anything to avoid WARN.
2)The claims come from anonymous forum posts, not verified sources — worth letting people on the forum judge that for themselves.
they know how to avoid having to file a WARN.
VSP numbers are excluded from WARN. There are criteria to trigger WARN. Some states have different mini WARN laws on top of that. Many companies will work around this if they can. I do not expect a WARN, but I still expect layoffs.
