Supervisor told us today she’s leaving. “SME” left about a month ago. What could this mean?

This is common if one person is doing multiple roles and they leave - the downstream impact can be too high for it to be worth it for the others.
They are tired of waiting to be RIF
The smartest people leave when they know things are off. Truly. I would be looking for a transfer or exit out of there
