Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Innovation tu-ds

Nike Innovation has perfected a remarkable process: take an exciting idea, overcomplicate it, poorly position it, leave it half-finished, and then ceremoniously dump it on Inline’s doorstep.

“Here you go, team. Innovation!”

Except it isn’t innovation. It’s a tu-d wearing a futuristic PowerPoint deck.

The concept is incomplete. The consumer story is vague. The business case is missing. The execution is barely house-trained. Yet somehow, everyone stands around admiring the bowl and congratulating themselves on the flush.

Then Inline gets handed the plunger.

They have to clean it up, make it manufacturable, explain why anyone should buy it, and somehow turn the whole steaming pile into an actual product. When it struggles, Innovation can conveniently claim that Inline “didn’t protect the vision.”

What vision? The one circling the drain?

Nike Innovation doesn’t deliver finished solutions. It delivers Innovation tu-ds™: expensive, poorly positioned droppings packaged with buzzwords, dramatic renderings, and absolutely no toilet paper.

Just Flush It

@kt To me, I am more concerned about they running out of ideas. I haven’t seen anything exciting for a while except maybe Nike Mind (probably still a hype but at least it’s selling well).

There was a brief period ending around 2015 when innovation delivered manufacturing ready technologies to inline through collaboration with both inline and manufacturing. Sadly that was lost.

The “we can work on whatever we want” innovation mantra is blinding

Has always been the case unfortunately, at list in the past few ideas were good and inline was able to capitalize on them. React, Flyknit…

Not to mention those projects took them 5+ years to develop….and yet still not finished. Think about that, 5+ years…no wonder people want to go there and never come back to inline.

Any individual or team that's doing cruddy work for cruddy Nike has my full and permanent support. Only bootlickers would disagree.
