Ethyl Benzene (EB) was product produced by Pascagoula in the early 2000's (modification of existing, decommissioned equipment). At that time, there was excess Ethane in the fuel gas and desire for leveraging product flexibility of the relatively new AROMAX plant (mid-1990's) benzene product to increase synergy in the aromatics value chain... at that time extending to St. James, LA. (Former Gulf facility, acquired with the other assets in the mid 1980's - East TX was notably Petrochemicals focused.)
And then, St. James main fractionator caught fire during a turnaround, lost structural integrity, and collapsed (literally fell over... the pictures that were shared it looked like Lakehurst, NJ, 1936). The common view is that this changed the internal-to-company economics somewhat, and the Pascagoula unit was decommissioned/repurposed in the following years.
