Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can you get laid off while on LOA?

Are there any rules around this? I'm scheduled to come back from my leave of absence in October

I think this question has been asked many times here. The true answer is - depends on each country's labor law. For US, in general, a company can legally do that for any of the LOAs. Of course, a company can never lay a person off due to he/she is on LOA. Is there special exception? That is a question to a lawyer I guess.

An example is that, in China, an employee's position cannot be eliminated while an employee is on maternity period - carrying period and one year after the birth (bonding time).

Think of LOA as most likely to layoff

There is so much bs here
If your leqve is covered by insurance or days off they owe you they do not care and they wont bother.
When you return to work you will be seeved with a pink slip and that was it. End of story.

It is harder legally for them to cut you while on LOA, but they def can do it. Or just wait till the day you come back and then tell you. as others have posted elsewhere, this is not a negoiation, when your # is up, your # is up.

Yes you can. Unsure of the rules or conditions of it, but as a leader when you have people on your team impacted, they provide you access to a FAQ. There are sections about how to communicate impact to folks on leave, so it must be possible.
