Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

AI the downfall of civilization

Do you think AI is going to really replace humans in most jobs?
Not only at Centene but other companies. How are we supposed to find jobs with other companies if they are or will be using AI too.
Are we going to be a society of a bunch of homeless on Medicaid?
While the billionaires and millionaires pushing AI are getting richer.

AI only works well if you are stupider than it is. If you actually know what you are doing, you will spot the mistakes it makes all day long.

Managers, though? They think its fantastic due to my first point.

To be fair, something was bound to get us.

@a9 Centene didn't make cuts due to changes in subsidies. They are making them to increase profit. Same with increased auto denials, increased bonuses at the executive level, fewer programs for the members we profess so much compassion for. Centene has the revenue to do right by members, providers, and employees. Sarah and her pals have made other decisions. Decisions that line their pockets.

@b1 Something else that I think should be said that it seems as though nobody recognizes. India is right now counting on AI to raise them up to a first world country on the backs, and at the cost, of a large part of America’s current wealth. I suspect before it is all said and done, America will hand over to India’s economy at least 1/3 of its current wealth, not to mention the amount of increased Indian population embedded within.

Not saying this is necessarily a bad thing but just something I am not sure everyone recognizes what is happening. America will look VERY different 5 to 10 years from now.

@az I agree with this. AI is given far too much credit for its capabilities. Most of the hype you read in news articles, and on social media, and video clips you see are coming from AI vendors. So, of course they are going to spin the capabilities and potential to be in as positive a light as possible. They have a vested interest.

I’m not saying this is actually going to happen but the vision of the AI industry is not a world where no one has jobs and are on Medicaid. It’s a world where you actually have no jobs, no healthcare, and you just die so that they can su-k up more of the wealth.

@az just create a little automation to give you updates… ChatGPT and about 5-10 minutes and get pinged.

No. AI as it currently stands is a glorified email writer for most people. I’m in IT, and it constantly makes mistakes which need manual review from a human when it writes code.

It does make certain things efficient, like reviewing documents quickly or inputting data. But even that needs human intervention due to fear of mistakes.

My wife works in Centene, so I lurk around here in case anyone was wondering.

Centene took a hit due to the cuts in healthcare subsidies and with AI functionality, it only added to the problem. The way layoffs have been handled is my main issue AI is not going away, so it never hurts to look online for cheap certification programs. That is my plan anyway. Best of luck to you!
