Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

lowering head count for an upcoming merger/sale?

“IMO lowering head count for an upcoming merger/sale.”

This was a comment on one thread, and I have heard someone else at work say the same.

Do we think this is what’s going on here?

Are there any possible pros to staying after a sale?

I also heard Abby got fed up with reporting showing that people were not doing as much work from home. (Obviously many of us work better at home and it could have been taken up with those folks. Now everyone’s being punished.

I would be floored if she actually sold the business. She makes so much every year doing absolutely nothing. In 20 years she will be at 1 trillion.

Accurate - 1 bullet on the PowerPoint slide probably cost 2 million. You know what is a waste - all the travel to planning sessions. People travel to get their Marriott Points to get vacations.

I am afraid for the fall out on the pulse survey where management says we need to improve the scores so let's have more team building sh1t.

interesting. that actually sort of makes sense if there actually is a plan to sell. companies going public or being acquired often try to look more efficient / valuable by paper metrics ahead of time. It takes some time for the reduction to impact numbers if cut too deep. I bet if they cut the correct 50% here in tech nothing would change tbh. 80% of what we build is a short term disposable waste of time for a product person to make a bullet on a PowerPoint as complete.

Yeah I never do any of that stuff anymore. Sadly am forced to work well beyond 8 hours a day without a choice.
But no team outings, no spirit week, no buying lunch or snacks at work.

Blame the productivity issue on the indian dominated teams that turn a 1 month project into a 1 year project

I think the story being told by leadership because they are ineffective is that people aren’t working efficiently from home. Why is senior leadership sitting at home and getting special exceptions to work thousands of miles away from their teams? Hypocrisy. Wait until they see what happens when we are in the office 100%. They really have no way to report efficiency. If they are using Microsoft Teams metrics those are flawed. Keeping by a window active is not truly working. You can’t measure thoughts/brainstorming. The reality is that local governments are putting the pressure on companies to bring people back into the office. Fidelity itself is trying to prevent a commercial real estate collapse. They try to say that zoom meetings are ruining the culture but that simply is not true. We are still working on projects with people in other sites. I don’t work with once person in my site. Fidelity has ruined morale for what? Tax breaks? I will not spend a penny in the locality just out of spite. Some people think we will go back to the way things were but that’s not going to happen. I’m boycotting all events - anniversary celebration, team events, site events, volunteer activities, nonsense committees. You get my 8 hours for the work I am paid for and nothing more. If I am asked to do more I will say I am too drained to partake. I don’t care if it affects my bonus. Not so quiet quitting.
