Heard that Fidelity either bought or leased a building in Warwick, RI and return to office in Smithfield is January 2027. Some people have been told this...and others have not. Just curious what people are hearing.

MetLIfe Building in Warwick is the target for Jan 2027.
A few months ago I applied to a role at the Smithfield office and a recruiter told me they were going back to office full time come September. Obviously that's not the case, so I don't know if that means anything, but wanted to share

It would be about $20 to $25 per week in gas alone (at an average local price of ~$3.97 per gallon), or roughly $95 per week using the total comprehensive IRS Mileage Rate of 76 cents per mile. Over a full year (52 weeks), this totals roughly $1,040 to $1,300 just for fuel or up to $4,940 for total vehicle wear and tear. Not to mention the hours of your life lost to sitting in traffic that could otherwise be spent with your family, working, or whatever you wanted to do with your time. It really depends on where you're commuting from.
When accepting a job one of several considerations is the commute. If one accepted a job knowing there was 40 mintue commute only later to find out it's now at least an hour+ the company moved your location, that is significant. It's impactful in several ways not only financially. The mentality of "it's not that far" and "be happy you still have a job" is for desparate people who will keep doing more for less. The simiple answer is if you don't like it then leave, but If the terms of employment change we should be compensated accordingly or given severance to seek employment elsewhere. To tell employees to deal with it or quit on their own is not acceptable.

@cn - 20 miles won't trigger it. It was 50 miles in past relos
I hope they do something with Rhode Island RTO that results in a "your job is moving, follow your job or take an exit package". They've done this several times before and hope something like this happens again. I'd like to think if they rent office space far enough from the main campus this could be an option.
It would be great if they could just move everything back to Massachusetts in Marlborough or the surrounding area. Plenty of empty buildings here because no one wants to be in Taxachusetts. They should cut a deal with Maura.
@ba they'd have a third building now so that would alleviate the issues that you're talking about. I'm sure they're kicking themselves now for getting rid of 100 Salem Street.
That would be a short notice. 6 months was too short for what we are dealing with. And clearly, because there is no plan for how everyone is going to fit to work, be we don’t fit. Same with parking
