Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

For ISG Engineering and Product people

Since Dell ISG Engineering and Product people have never heard of it before, here's a little help.

The Cloud—what is it?

The cloud is a vast online storage space where people and businesses store their files and applications, accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. The cloud also offers services, such as computing power, databases, networking, and software applications.

The main purpose of the cloud is to provide on-demand access to computing resources and services over the internet. This includes a wide range of services such as servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence. The cloud empowers people and organizations to use these resources without having to manage physical servers or run software applications on their own computers.

You're not far off. In all my years at Dell, with all the broken promises and failed projects they said we'd have by now, I've come to realize ISG Engineering couldn't pour water from a boot even with instructions on the heel.

@ch That's because all it was 11 years ago - and all it has ever been since - is outsourced PowerPoint Presentations by Product leaders who don't know Jack shiit. We missed the cloud by a mile.

The "cloud" was supposed to save us 11 years ago, hint it didn't.

Thanks for the IT101 lesson, professor. When will you next bestow further wisdom upon us?

You should tell that to Arthur, Michael and Jeff. They’re the politicians and financiers who don’t get it. Dell is a financial investment firm with operations and manufacturing. Purchasing EMC provided the most software they ever had with the biggest portfolio they ever had. Now that Michael has su-ked and destroyed everything from it he’s laying everyone off. For Dell if it’s not a widget Michael doesn’t understand.

Get rid of the “technologies” after Dell because it’s not a technology company.

...and the cloud costs don't provide the savings we all thought it would.

Maybe some of these ISG engineers work on the storage machines and servers the cloud uses or do you actually think ISG deals with only software that ignores cloud based applications? Or maybe ALOT of users dont use the cloud like certain military bases, aerospace, various hospitals and banking applications just to name a few.

Maybe there is some way we can profit from this cloud. Maybe we could start selling enterprise systems like storage and servers to these cloud companies...
