I’m sure this changes month-to-month or year-to-year. But, do people leaders have awareness to layoffs or are they just as caught off guard? Please provide your experiences.

SH-T HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Managers provide performance review info to HR but they generally don’t select who, HR does. They don’t always know who it will be until the day they have to meet with the associate and HR. It’s awful for the manager as well. Elevance has gone down. Miss the Blue Cross,WellPoint, Anthem days!
@ew Yeah, makes you wonder if some lying is going on. Who would most likely benefit from being dishonest regarding this subject matter?
Not always
Managers are sometimes aware, but not always. We had associates RIFd in March and the Manager had no idea. He was informed after the HR meeting that he'd lost associates. It's so messed up.
Wow ! Interesting how different these responses are
Not always.
They are aware. My manager knew early February that I was getting laid off in April. My separation package included documentation of the date that I was on the RIF list. When I got my performance review in March they already knew. I believe they have a say into who is laid off. Prepare please have 6-12 months of savings on hand.
Used to. Not anymore
yes, typically they do have awareness and have some input
