Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Yet another restructuring at TEBG!

TEBG is constantly restructuring. It feels like no one can make up their minds on how to function.
How long will the games continue? The morale can't get any lower than this.

This structure definitely makes it easier to sell parts of TEBG. Aerospace and defense is now a good candidate for sale creating shareholder value.

@f6 nope, no promotion and haven’t been promoted for years. I enjoy making an impact and being part of a great team doing good work. That’s all.

@f5

Let me guess...you must be one of the managers who got promoted as part of the new re org. Sure life is good ! A coveted promotion just because someone got a new position or better still a new position was created just for you.

For all the complainers out there, go find something better to do. Those of us excited about the change and building better for the future wish you’d all leave. You are toxic and exhausting to be around every day. My leader is great and he’s helping us daily and makes a fun place to work. I am more energized than I have been in years.

The cards can be shuffled in any way you want, but at the end of the day nothing changes really ! 3M is a materials science and technology based company and new ideas and solutions have always come from bench level interactions. When these people are disillusioned and largely demotivated, simply shuffling positions and making superficial changes have never worked and will not work this time.

Here are some incentives for working at the bench in 3M these days that come to mind :

In no particular order ..

yearly layoffs, cuts to benefits over the years....LTIP gone for most people, no pension after 2028, measly yearly increments in paycheck, lack of growth opportunities for technical folks....., no reward for risk taking

What else comes to mind ?

Not even 2 years since the last reorg - which obviously didn't work. No mention that they got it wrong only that this is the answer to all our problems...at least for a year until they try something else. Always churn here in TEBG. I'm not so sure Steve V (DEPP) was ready to retire. After spending the past year doing 2 jobs (leading China and DEPP), they thanked him by showing him the door. Interesting.

Townhall was really good and I’m excited about the changes and the leaders that talked, especially Ken. The R&D changes totally make sense.

Interestingly the 2 Presidents for the product platforms have announced their "retirements",
Are they made casualties for the Wower's latest decision??

TEBG has been a mess and sinking ship for a decade or more that I’ve been here. I actually don’t know anything about the changes but seems major fixing was needed given it’s always been bad performer trying to survive.

@OP

The morale can't get any lower? Wait until they explain, or try to anyway, the changes tomorrow. I think it's still got some room to drop.
