Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Yet another restructuring at TEBG!

TEBG is constantly restructuring. It feels like no one can make up their minds on how to function.
How long will the games continue? The morale can't get any lower than this.

Bro got promoted since he is in management. In all probability, made zero $$ for the company! Promotions happen like clockwork in management, no accomplishments required. Just continue doing horsework for the higher ups.

He is no worker bee, thats for sure. Hence he is technical employee.

When promotion is so hard in the company for technical folks who are working so hard and delivering how come this CRPL manager NS gets a jump. Huh? Guys best is to learn good English and not worry about technology.

He gets praised for his English not his technology prowess. And he got a promotion. Unbelievable what the two beans in a pod can do to destroy R&D

That lab mgr from CRPL will be one of the reason EBO will go down. He is another proof of a CRL manager who did nothing to go up the ranks. May be they wanted to get rid of him from CRL

SV the yawner, SP the yapper have spoiled the TEBG with lack of leadership and ownership, EBO a 20 year old work, will face a lot during manufacturing scale up. Wower can’t Wow LinkedIn with just this

Oh wow, look at all these new management layers popping up in the shiny new EBO organization at TEBG! Because what every fresh business division really needs is a mountain of managers, right? I mean, who cares if it’s already bursting at the seams with leadership?

From my cozy little corner supporting this program as a hands on worker bee (indirectly, of course), I can tell you the poor worker bees are drowning in work. But hey, why add more hands on deck when we can just add more bosses to boss around?

And the cherry on top? Snagging a Senior Lab Manager from CRPL with a whopping two direct reports. Because clearly, that’s the pinnacle of efficiency and necessity. Bravo!

Did any of you clowns bi--hing watch the town hall? The HR lady did a good job of describing the changes and exactly what’s different. If you don’t know or understand it’s because you don’t want to understand and you just want to complain. Even an elementary student could have understood what was explained.

Good that Sleepy Steve was shown the door. Should have happened a couple years back. Unbelievably weak leadership skills but somehow flourished to climb the ladder so high - may be because of his Dad was an ex- 3Mer. All floating in 3M money

merge commercial graphics & transportation claiming there was synergy.

Now they decided to split up again. Essentially undo the prior actions.

@158 The situation is reminiscent of the corporate labs reorganization roughly twenty years ago, when 3M eliminated its technology centers. At the time, the CTO (Ihlenfeld) stated that “there is nothing new left to invent in adhesives,” concluding that dedicated adhesives technology development was unnecessary. The adhesives technology center was dissolved, and its highly capable scientists were reassigned to different divisions.

Four years later, a new CTO (Palenski) proclaimed adhesives represented a major growth opportunity for 3M and created an adhesives “cluster” within CRML. By that point, however, many of the company’s top adhesives scientists had already left, and 3M had effectively lost four years of progress in adhesives research. Despite these outcomes, both CTOs were generously rewarded for their "strategic" decisions at the time, receiving substantial RSU and stock option grants.

@15a I am not sure what you are referring to but lately there has been an usually strong push to complete ethics training from the top leaders.
Made stop and think , why this strong a focus at a time when such big, fundamental changes are taking place.
It felt fishy.

@133 can you or anyone please elaborate on what’s going on in legal, regarding “ Trade compliance and ethics are the latest toys being thrown around in hopes that the broken pieces can be glued together.”.

Do we have new legal problems arising? Or is it some biz “strategy” that is borderline legal? Thanks ahead of time for any info

“they refused to acknowledge that it is actually back to "division". Just change of the nomenclature”

That’s because whenever you need to go back to the old way of doing something, you must NEVER sell it that way. You sell it as being the ALL NEW way of doing something. Going back to the “old way” will never ever get approved. It makes the leadership feel important to approve something “all new” and usually they have no idea it’s just going back to the old way. 😂

@11f remaining are 4 product verticals, which they refused to acknowledge that it is actually back to "division". Just change of the nomenclature

Vertical = Division

@136, iykyk.
Based on your lack of organizational knowledge, you have been identified as a high potential employee for the HR organization and will be promoted to at least a VP. This is exactly the mindset we expect of our hr leaders. Clueless, cheerless, careless.

Same on the functional side. Lots going on with clueless leaders in legal. Trade compliance and ethics are the latest toys being thrown around in hopes that the broken pieces can be glued together. Another gem from McKinsey under Nexus. And pfas bro, sleepy Steve is bringing his unique brand of “do what I say, not what I do” to “disrupt” cause you know, that’s what bros do… and get paid over 1 mil to do that.

This restructuring excercise reduced the number of TEBG presidents from 6 to 4. Although there are questions why there is a need to carve out a separate vertical for Transportation??
