Are there any rumors of fall layoffs after open enrollment? I'm not hearing the usual chatter but it seems to be a yearly event. It also seems to have been unusually long since the round. My mgr asked about my general flight risk in a meeting stating they were assessing the group plans. Is that a normal conversation? Our group is definitely not hiring. If anything it's shifting to more offshore.

There was a time (late 1990s early 2000s) when I actually felt like part of a family. We worked hard. We socialized afterwards. We could name-off people in other closely-associated departments who we interacted with. We still had "somewhat" the mindset of the old Pennsylvania Blue Shield. But...as time went on, and the Highmark mentality continued to "infest" the Camp Hill Campus, there was less and less focus on the people. The higher-ups couldn't care less about us, especially those in Pittsburgh. I worked for a manager in Pittsburgh who REFUSED to travel to Camp Hill to meet his people -- worked for him for 14 months!!! -- and to this day, I STILL have no clue what the guy even looks like. Never met him NOR had a video conference with him. When I finally retired in 2018, I worked in a department which was so IMPERSONAL, for the life of me I'm not able to name more than 3-4 people in the entire department which had about 20 people (the majority in Pittsburgh). Absolutely NO team-building social events. I was so glad to leave that God-forsaken place.....
As a former manager at HMK I can tell you we were required to fill out a talent evaluation for our staff rating their potential for next level of promotion and risk of leaving on a yearly basis. I wouldn’t read into it that much. I would always be proactively looking elsewhere though. Leaving was the best decision I ever made. You don’t realize how toxic it is there until you move to a company that’s run well and actually cares about their employees.
