Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

People act like Verizon is the only place that's different than it was a decade ago

It's not. Everything has shifted, the economy, the industry, the expectations. We don't have to like the changes, but complaining about them is fruitless. You have two options: adapt or find somewhere that still fits who you are. Which you might find out is not as easy these days.

Im not sure there are a lot of other companies that has been run by a bunch of bungling fools for 12+ years. In that time, tell me one strategic move that's had a positive ROI other than headcount cuts?

I don’t think “people” act like Verizon isn’t evolving just as other companies are. I think the leadership at Verizon was acting like nothing was changing which is why so many families and careers are being destroyed right now because of the downsizing as a direct result of years of very poor leadership decisions to where someone had to “step in” to “turn the company around” which is an extreme position. Verizon wasn’t failing, they just weren’t number 1. They aren’t even in bankruptcy…this level of job reduction is unnecessary…...all of the job loss and families suffering NOTABLY during a period where it’s VERY DIFFICULT to find another job…is cruelty. High performers that just got promoted getting the ax…there is only a limited amount of time large corporations are going to get away with what they are doing right now. They saw an opportunity and took it no matter how unethical or immoral it is.

A large percentage of VZ employees just have no idea what the outside world is like.
