Ford rotate managers, supervision...

Ford should rotate managers, supervision... around or bring quality talent from outside to change the culture.

@183+1m0nyehjw its a strange phenomenon. The thing is they bring in someone from the outside as they feel that person will be loyal to them. They don’t trust any of the FNF crowd in the middle management layers to a) not stab them in the back b) not sabotage initiatives for their own personal gain. So they hire externally.
It’s a well known phenomenon especially at the LL5 and LL4 levels. The LL3s have pretty much zero faith in their leadership team. We had a LL3 who would attend and record meetings that he really had no business attending, it became clear that he knew just how inept his leadership team was.
But when you think of it it makes Ford sense. The ole C students hire and promote D and F students.

Ummm, bringing ‘outside talent’ into mgmt roles is one of the main reasons FMC is the HOT MESS it is today.

Now ya know.

@kt You hit the nail on the head. "PAST". Looking for REPLICATION and not INNOVATION. SOSDD? Nope. SOFSOS. Imagine just how many opportunity costs have lapsed. Until A$$ kissers are replaced with A$$ KICKERS, FAILURE will be the only outcome.

@j7+1m0nyehjw that sure rings true. One has to wonder if any other credible outsider can now be recruited by the Ford company to save the company? There are rumors of failed recruiting efforts to locate a savior CEO. It would take a special type of person to take on the job. And you know they would be having a sidebar with past Ford CEOs while mulling it over.

@d1 you are dead on. a buddy of mine warned me back in 2011 he said the day Alan retires will be the day the company goes back to its old ways. Fast forward to 2020 I was over in WHQ for a haircut and one of the admins from the top floor came down spatted off about the article the Peter Delorenzo wrote that day regarding the clown show Ford had for senior management. She stated they could not wait for alan to leave. everything was alan. people walk in bypass Billy and go right to Alan. Well there is a reason for that. It is called "BECAUSE HE KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING". Some people forget Billy was CEO prior to Alan. He was asked to step down by his own family. Now why was that????? You put his cronies in like Art Van the furniture guy and look what happened??? History repeating itself...

You could eliminate over half of them. At every level. Someone who sits (hides) in meetings all day isn't contributing much.

@cj Maybe at the top level (Ll4 and above) I don’t see much movement among LL5/6 in my area - the same clown show day in and day out. Their job is more about firefighting and turf politics than acutally working on a product.

@OP Ford leadership doesn’t want the culture to change as they got to where they are by exploiting said culture.
All you have to do is look at the Alan Mulally era. He quickly realized the game that was afoot and had managed to drive the culture underground (and dormant). Behind the scenes people were whispering in Bill Ford’s ear feeding his insecurities, they also conducted whisper campaigns with the BOD. As soon as Alan was out the door the old culture came roaring back.

RTO already provided all the culture change needed.

Absolutely. A winning strategy is to have managers and supervisors controlling areas in the company where they have zero experience or technical expertise in the product/systems they are in charge of.

See Ford's warranty quality recall performance? The strategy is working!

Promoting from within is a losing strategy to Bill and Jim.

Ford already moves management around, so they don’t stay in one position long enough to be blamed when things go wrong.

You want to ruin more talent by bringing them into a trauma factory? What are you trying to do, control em? Save talent. Don't join Ford. Don't ruin more lives.
