Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Why sTCB. there are many hubs where cut could help like Huston or Amsterdam

why this time I hear target is on STCB, they dont charge so much , cut at expensive locations will help the economy

@hz

that’s right. and i don’t want to hear a single complaint from any of them. “it’s good outsource, it saves companies costs”. ok buddy. now that you’re the cost being cut, how do you feel? no take backs on what you said.

American and EU jobs were outsourced to India. Now Indian jobs will be outsourced to AI.

@gb Chennai has hundreds of useless report builders for Finance. Can be cut bcoz Ai or done by Manilla.

@fj doesn’t matter sbo or stcb - still overhired. And with asset sales they will need less tech people. You can hope for the best but you need to plan for both external and internal job opportunities.

@fg see within India we understand SBO is redundant but STCB niche , computational team bunch of genius

@cf and the folks in Amsterdam and Houston don’t? You best be prepared because it seems all functions have a 50% cost reduction target so SBO’s will feel the cuts too. When jobs were transitioned there, they overhired so it is understandable why cuts will come.

@ew I am really not sure if situation is so alarming with STCB

since you agree that it is ethical to reduce costs and good for the company

then you should have no complaints when the tasks we send to STCB get replaced by AI! this has already begun.

@av I remember trying to outsource something to TAO/TAS in July. Their management said they would not have someone trained up until December and would not promise to have it completed until October the following year. Cost wise they were maybe 10% cheaper, but we could get a local firm to complete everything by December. Their model does not work.

Just because a location is 'cheaper' doesn't automatically mean it's better, more efficient, or higher quality.
The restructuring at STCB isn't an attack on India; it’s the collapse of an internal outsourcing model that grew too massive, bureaucratic, and disconnected from reality on the ground.
Locations like Houston and Amsterdam hold high value for Shell that low-cost hubs simply cannot replicate.
And let’s not forget the elephant in the room: bad management exists everywhere, regardless of the location's price tag.

Maybe because we are many, we are computational team, we can't write properly 'why this time'.
