Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

So long chumps

Finally pulling the trigger on leaving this place. I had hoped for a long career here, but the writing is on the wall. Our leadership is clueless. This reorg is a let’s-bo-b-Iran level absolute disaster, with no way out. Upward mobility is totally gone (see the new internal hiring process yet? Yeeesh). ENGINE has already failed, yet no one has the spine to say it out loud.

I have no idea why anyone would stick around here, outside of execs with cush pretend gigs, unless you have no other options or are in abject denial. Good luck to you all. I promise it’s going to get worse.

I’ll take bovine fecal matter from a straw man that never actually worked here for $200, Alex.

I left last year and saw the writing on the wall, mostly because delivering good, meaningful work was not only challenging, but almost discouraged.

I certainly wasn't happy.

But where I have ended up isn't much better. The expectations are higher, the work is boring, and the pay and conditions are worse.

But at least I feel like I am delivering something useful.

Would I go back to Chevron? Probably not. Would I want to leave if I was there? Probably not.

I think most jobs are just cooked these days.

@ae thiskisnkunfirst comment here. You’ll be shocked to hear literally no one thinks this reorgs was successful, including execs. Just look at CES scores - there are no shortage of staff fed up with this dog and pony show.

And yes, I did have the opportunity to EOI. I decided to give it a year. Somehow things steadily get worse. The last year has been an utter waste professionally, spending all my time redefining work flows that weren’t broken, pretending ENGINE and AI are useful, and explaining to my unqualified boss the basics to her job. Just reached a point where I’m embarrassed to work here and my professional self respect requires I move on.

@OP Agree with everything you said. I’m right behind you. Just keep looking ahead as there’s more of a future externally.

OP, could you have taken the EOI last year? Too bad things are not working out at the new organization.
