At least in my area, it seems like pretty much everyone who was offered the buyout is turning it down. Meanwhile, a lot of the people who actually want the buyout weren't offered one.
So what happens if the company is claiming a surplus but not enough people take the offer? Could they eventually move to layoffs? And if they do, would the people who were offered the buyout and chose not to take it be the first ones affected, or would layoffs go strictly by seniority? Also, the local is hush hush about this in my area.
