Evil men only succeed when good men cower before them.
So about this announcement regarding the 1RP update following the next town hall…
I got a 10% raise in June but have since left for a better remote job
Who on here was a part of the 40% of engineers that got a salary adjustment? What was the percent increase?
@2v11 when your boss comes to you and ask, why have you not completed the survey, that should tell you they know who took and who didn't.
I completed mine in about 5 minutes, start to finish. Didn't read the questions, just marked it high and moved on.
It was worth about that much effort based on what I will get in return from it.
They will break down the numbers, give Bill a report and he'll say, everything looks good, on to the next item on the list.
These surveys are just a check box for them, nothing will change.
I’m a junior level employee and I just gave everything the highest rating because I’m afraid of retaliation. I had to move to the city for RTO and now my finances are stretched so thin I don’t have the security to feel like I can be authentic on a survey. Bill has me trapped just like he wanted
Don’t assume that this or any other survey is anonymous. It is, after all, collected via computer and reported back by your respective managers.
Don’t think for a second that the Yes Men from the very top down won’t hesitate to root out the “problem people” to save themselves.
Your best option for self preservation is to complete the survey with high marks. Don’t completely skip it, as that will also identify you.
I did the survey this time and gave lower ratings than I ever have. I think they need to know employees are not satisfied with what is happening at AEP. I think people who come to this site are venting and that is great to have this space, but nothing will change if we don’t at least try by completing the survey, that is if you want to continue your career at AEP. I know we will all get action items and it won’t change anything but at least upper management and hopefully the board will know of the frustration of the employees.
I believe it was the year after TR came onboard and we had a survey. I heard there were over 600 negative comments, most about her. The survey was quickly wrapped up and not official comments were made above Director level. Pretty much everything was handled by the first line managers.
She knew she couldn't say anything because we all knew outsourcing was her primary objective and she was the villain in our horror story.
@2twv
And yet each year you get assigned action items based on your lowest scores. So you have to come up with a plan to fix problems, that aren't even yours to begin with (insert some poor management decision here) and then magically make it all better. Pass. All 5s and leave me alone.
Management may not be worth 5s, but I sure as sh-t don't want to be hassled even more.
@2tvc And lock these hayseed yokels up that text while driving on the highway. Put them in the El Salvador jail for an hour and they'll straighten right up.
Omg you guys are so right. Let's being TR, JS, NA, and restore AEP to its former glory.
@2twm Each year I struggle with this! They’re not worthy of 5’s (also leaders would NEVER blindly give any of us fives/role model just to be done with a review; keep that in mind). But also, if we are honest, we then have to try to resolve that which is a broken leadership system. Oh the woes of corporate America
Survey always gets top marks on every question. If you don't and you tell them about the problems, the issues are never managements fault. It always ends with the lowest scores being action items for you to correct. Save yourself the drama and just put all 5s with no comment.
My survey thanked AEP for dumping thousands of more vehicles on the highways and helping me wait in traffic after the 3rd or 4th crash on 270.
Retaliation exists at AEP. Better off not taking the survey. Look at your leader, did they nake it to that position by hard work and helping others. There is more of a chance they walked all over emloyees to get where they are at. That type of leadership is bred at AEP.
@2tq4 last I checked, only 58% completed it. I haven't done it, not interested in doing it.
I have never seen a survey at AEP ever made things better. All they do is make work for the ones that do the majority of the work around here.
If I'm forced to do it, I'll just mark everything as fine with no comments. Done.
They've lost the support of the employees, they just don't know it.
I let em have it in that god sam survey. Eat my thoughts and words.
Has anyone done the recent survey? I think everyone should and express your feelings. I’m not sure it will make a difference but I think it’s better than just not completing the survey. Just my opinion.
Still waiting on more bad news that will impact me… been expecting them to take away take home vehicles for distribution design engineers for awhile.
@2t9n Debt is recovered from customers through rates, so no worries there 🤙🏻
It's amazing the number of people still leaving AEP. I worked at AEP for close to two decades and don't recall seeing or hearing about the level of turnover there is today. I really liked working at AEP for most of my time but am so glad I got out. So it's kind of sad to read this thread and see what AEP has become. When I left, it seemed like people couldn't believe there are other jobs out there/or expressed they were scared to leave. I promise there are many other options, with as good or better benefits. It's not that scary. In fact, it's quite a lot better on the other side!
@2tdc AEP employees are mature enough and virtuous enough to only demand what they have earned and deserve because we realize customers pay our wages and for our benefits. It is you, who contrives to steal far more than you have earned and deserve. Customers see us working in the oppressive heat and humidity, the frigid cold and howling wind, late at night and early in the wee morning hours to keep their lights on or restore their electric service. Our dirty hands and uniforms and our inexhaustible determination to overcome adversity makes our value glaringly obvious to our stakeholders, yours is always dubiously doubtful.
@2tam
We the people are trying everything we can to make you happy. What can be done to satisfy your worker's greed? Please take all the money I have.
Corporate profits absent shared prosperity for employees is wage theft by the global oligarchy that pledges allegiance only to itself and its insatiable greed. Corporate leadership must rebrand, Un-American Electric Power.
@2taa Snarky comments are not helping your case. We know they are the result of haughty arrogance and guilt deflection.
Have you had anything to drink today sir? How much is a little? We talking one... two hundred...?
@2t9n Without the company we built and maintain they could not convince shareholders to invest a dime. It is the same as someone stealing the deed to your home and selling the house you spent a lifetime buying and maintaining right out from under you. It is time to take back our sweat equity and run these highly educated and lowly raised thieves to ground.
@2t9n Growth for their bank accounts not ours, Americans do not tie their individual identity to their employer the way Japanese workers do. Apparently, when AEP leadership is getting richer we are all supposed to be excited even though we are struggling to feed our families, keep the bills paid and try to save a little for retirement and emergencies. We are not buying into their BS when the boss is doing great we are all doing great and now their mortgaging our future to provide for their 7th future generation.
Remember we are their legitimate beard so they can con people, including us.
Wow we secured a $1.6 billion loan from the DOE. Didn't we just get done raising a bunch of money by selling a stake in one of the opcos? Not to mention all the rate increases. How are we so strapped for cash? Leadership keeps telling us that we should be so excited for all the "growth" but it appears that we have to go into massive debt to chase it. I hope they know what they're doing.
@2t08
DB, is that you?
The bigger question you all should be asking isn't about money or culture. These things will always stay the same at AEP... but now a great leader has made peace in the middle east will we the people at AEP finally invest in their utility sector?
@2t0b Fealty based.
@2sww
I was shocked when he said that 40% of transmission got a raise. I certainly didn't so I instantly started wondering who got one and under what rationale.
The question was laced with poison though, the guy said that he can never get top shelf hires because AEP can't compete, and what is being done to change that.
I think he was put on the spot and was fumbling the question so he just put the 40% figure out there to take the pressure off. Because in reality he knows AEP has nothing to offer.
Bill shredded a lot of good will with the RTO debacle. What a mo--n. Anyone else notice how we rarely hear from Bill anymore? For a little while after he was hired you couldn't go a day without seeing his face on the homepage or getting a mass email from him. Now crickets
What happened Bill? Realizing everyone hates you now? You ruined a lot of lives.
AEP should not be advertising about career oppurtunities. It is just not true from my experience. I woukd have been way better off at another utility like Duke. Instead I believed in AEP lies and wasted a majority off my life. I really hope younger people are reading these posts before joining this company. Biggest disappointment in my life.
@2szt Don't let these b-ms wield control over your financial situation. Get another job offer, don't talk about the money, politely tell your AEPA manager that you have a serious offer but you want to stay at AEP. IF you get paid more then great. ELSE get the bank you're worth elsewhere.
@2sxn ok but is AEP leadership even equipped to have that type of conversation? We are getting lapped by organizations that have robust, well established comp and succession plans. I can tell my leader what I KNOW I’m worth but unless leadership understands how to receive and navigate that conversation, it’s still a “does my manager like me enough to shrug and say ok” type conversation.
@2sz9 Managers don't want to improve and develop their teams to any serious degree. They just want a clean record of management so they can get the next opportunity. Most managers spend all day in meetings and just network for their own benefit.
A good manager, not many at AEP, would know who is getting work done and who is not. You shoukd not have to be a salesman to be treated fairly. Not every utility will be like that. A lot of companies do whst they say. AEP is just not that kind of company. Jusy look at your leaders. Was there neopotism involved in the position they have. Merit is not part of AEP.
