Thread regarding EchoStar Communications Corp. layoffs

If laid off after bankruptcy, do we get any severance?

I'm petrified this will be used as a reason to rob people of their safety nets in any of the future rounds, and we all know more rounds are coming.

The only reason the gave 60 days of pay was to avoid a WARN notice; so no, I doubt anyone who is left at the company will get even that, unless they're shuttering the place.

@2n7 I do not think so, there is no such obligation and bankruptcy court has to approve it and your employment is at will - so i really doubt any one has any incentive to give any notice period..

There is no provision of any severance in bankruptcy documents, they will immediately terminate folks.. if someone finds a job, they should run..

@105 a lot of these HR clerks used to act with arrogance as if they are the ones running the company

@105 As I said somewhere else, Michelle is just an overpaid clerk. She could do nothing even if she wanted to. Her acting as a martyr and sacrificing herself would do little.

There was never a severance package. The checks until Sept 22 was required by WARN act. HR branded it as severance which was misleading and frankly bullsh!7.

Hughes HR is the puppet of EchoStar’s brutal, inhumane HR practices. I’d say f*** Michelle Pierre and all of her henchmen. They’re the willing culprits to these malfeasance.

The Debtors are authorized, but not directed, to continue to pay and honor Compensation and Benefits to the Notified Employees during the Transition Period (and for any such longer period that the Notified Employees are employed by the Debtors).

According to Google, 60 days federal WARN Act applies to companies operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy. So we may get 60 day' advance written notice for the next layoffs

@OP “Safety net” and Hughes are a contradiction in terms. The only reason that there are paychecks and benefits covered until Sept 22 for the 400-500 let go was because EchoStar had to do it , given the WARN requirements and this bankruptcy. I would not count on much if someone were laid off now. Factor in 2 weeks severance. Anything more would be a gift. Forget about tenure and level on the food chain.

There is no additional money accounted for severance in the chap 11 documents that have been filed, unless already accounted for 400+ let go
