As someone who had been at 3M, I didn't trust new external hires because the C-suite, VPs, and must directors prefer external hires who don't know how things are supposed to work or what the process is.
Instead they want a bunch of yes-men who will execute on whatever d-mb idea they have, with no concern for reality.
And since it's easier to point a new person in a nonsense direction because they don't have any background or context than it is to brainwash someone who already knows how the process works, they're prioritizing external hires.
So that's where us legacy employees are at: the risk of a new external hire coming along and trying to push things in the wrong direction because that's what their boss is telling them is far too high, and the inevitable failure comes back to bite us in the a-s.
