One of my friends in merch told me there is a team who is being required to be there from 8 to 5 on RTO days. That was never a requirement before the pandemic and I’m wondering if that true for all of merch. I anticipate everyone will be on 3-4 days RTO soon, but I think specific mandated hours are insane. Schedules shift day to day for families. Is this true? Do I need to look for a new company?

"Chained to your desk" what kind of comment is that? You are paid to do work. If you are not at your desk, work isn't getting done.
Examples of not working:
Walking dogs
Walking kids to bus stops
Going to Starbucks
Doing laundry
You are not getting paid to do this do grow up.
In department meetings our team has been told that 48 hours per week is the norm. Most log on when they get home so it wouldn’t surprise me a lot are working 55+ hours per week. I’ve t beats being underemployed or unemployed.
This sounds like a layoff trying to get people to leave, one minute they are remote first and the next they are timing people chained to their desks
@j5 The crazy part is that most of us will have to open our laptops once we get home to catch up or to meet their unreasonable and unrealistic expectations. Return to Office doesn’t mean no work from home unfortunately.
I worked 7-4 but loved spent many hours at home on urgent issues.
It’s the flexibility that is gone from this, what if you have an appointment and need to catch up on your work later in the day. Everyone is online at 8pm anyway. This is control.
I worked in the office at Target HQ from the early 2000's through 03/20. The designated work hours were always 8-5pm but there was flexibility, depending on your team, with how you got in your 40 hours. You were expected to be at meetings that started at 8am and meetings that ran until 5pm. People were very understanding if a TM had to come in late or leave early due to family needs. The biggest challenge with not having consistent hours across a team is scheduling meetings and in-person collaboration like product reviews.
Do people even hear themselves??? You were hired to do a job and put in a full days work. Why is it so hard for people to understand that Target is a business. Working a full day is normal. So tired of the whining.
The majority of TMs have never had the options to WFH even during covid. Stores, DCS, Fulfillments. The entitlement is ridiculous.
Unless you were hired as a remote TM, get your butt to work! Or find a new job.

I think 8-5 is the standard for most in-office jobs in the country. Why would Target be different?
I’ve heard something similar. Absolutely insane and shame on leadership for thinking that’s acceptable.
