Thread regarding Ford layoffs

@5pg ABF - anywhere but ford. In all seriousness, I am sorry you have this stress in what should be a very happy time in your life. Reach out to your network, you'll get picked up quick if you have a some friends in automotive and a diversified work experience in the company. I ended up with a good size promotion after dealing with an issue at Ford. I would have left a long time ago if I knew how good other companies were, so there is light from darkness.

@gh as someone who is about to get laid off, any advice on companies / industries I should apply to? Extra freaking out bc I’m pregnant so can’t apply until after having the baby but desperately need a list of places to start I’m so overwhelmed 😔

@1kr
It’s not how many hours you put in.
It’s what you put in to those hours.

Anyone who thinks those in the office aren’t goofing off most of the day never saw Office Space or actually worked in an office.

RTO is a joke. My neighbor cuts his grass and goes out numerous times on his “WFH” day. Ford is paying him for 5 days and he is working 4. Anyone that thinks many of these people actually work on their WFH days is crazy. RTO 5 days is the only way to stop the waste.

Seriously, where are we with RTO? Are we thinking we ease up sometime in the future to 3 days in or more likely we go full RTO5? 5 day RTO will certainly force more out, but is that the plan after all?

@dp Before I was let go, my building was 20% short of seats.

Laid off from ford earlier in the year. Have a remote job now...Ford can f-off with RTO.

@dp They know how many are needed, that's easy to figure out. But they also know it's cheaper to get rid of as much leased space as possible so it's better (for the bottom line) to force people to "hotel" desks with an assumption that, at any given time, we should only expect about ~80% of people in the office. So we only provide seats for that many.

Our area still doesn't have enough desks for everyone. But everyone must be in 4 days a week. Its no wonder the company is a mess. If the leaders can't even figure out how many desks they need, I have no confidence they can solve the real problems.

@a2 It's true, they spoke up at ford. They can't be trusted. investigate them, not a team player....

They are tracking. If you are not already meeting 4 days per week, you better have been showing continuous improvement towards goal of 4. Regardless of your situation.

Go ahead an ask HR if you don't believe this.

All employees are required to return to work for five days per week, Monday through Friday at all Ford locations starting July 6th, 2026.
