How long do they make stay after your informed you re being laid off?

A person was laid off on my team and they were let go the same day. It was odd because they told her she was being let go in the morning and they let her finish her shift that day.
It varies for "last day worked" vs layoff date.
For last day worked It could be same day to up to a couple of months. But even if it is same day as notification you will be paid as regular until your layoff date and then after that the severance would start. The severance is typically lump sum and can take a couple of pay cycles to be paid out.
i have seen a couple weeks to a month in my experience
Generally 2 weeks till last day 'working' - then usually another week of paid time. So ~3 weeks of pay.
