Slap to the face

@gq Okay, in that case, I sincerely with you well and hope your career and livelihood comes out as unscathed as possible.

@gp I don’t have a “motive” lol. I wasn’t even given the choice of a VSP so I get to brace myself for a maybe layoff. I am also a nurse. We are looking at the same jobs.

@gn Well, I guess I tend to agree with the OP, trying to out myself in their shoes. I imagine the company, and probably their direct leaders, put them in a “flight or fi**t” mentality where they felt as though their back was against the wall and was lead to believe, or at lead to believe, or at least not discouraged in believing, that their role was being completely done away with soon that the “best” solution would be to accept VSP so that they could at least buy a little time from financial ruin.

But, now, after being approved for the VSP, they find out that it was not all about reducing employee headcount but rather instead all about saving money by replacing person with cheaper pay.

So, yes, I agree as to what the OP had said and felt and their logical thinking in the matter. It is totally logical. Whereas, you are pretending as though it is not logical, which makes me think you have an ulterior motive.

@gm I don’t agree with the backfilling. I don’t dispute the issues that follow. I’m just concerned about OP’s thought process.

@gk If the company needed/wanted a person to continue filling those now backfilled roles, why did they even offer them VSP?

I know to save money and pay someone less to do the same job. So, basically throwing away a bunch of built up acumen, to do what exactly? Basically to do what is tantamount to pinching pennies. If you basically “downgrade” the experience of staff by letting the more experienced (more expensive) staff go, it doesn’t make the company stronger and better…just richer.

@gj you did not have to take the VSP. It’s more likely you wouldn’t have been laid off if they’re hiring.

I am taking VSP. These jobs are posted on CNet under job openings. Some are in the same state I am in.

To the je-ks with nothing nice to say! I am an excellent nurse! Exceeds expectations on all reviews so shut it!

@OP how good of a nurse were you? 13 years doesn’t mean 13 years of value

I mean they’re hiring for different plans and several different roles most of which require you to live in a particular state and have experience in that department. I’m not shocked they’re still hiring nurses in general. They’re not hiring nurses in my state nor many for my role. I’m assuming if they’re not hiring here…well…

@OP where you laid off earlier in the year or did you take the VSP?

They are probably hiring a nurse through an agency contract which means cheaper for the company.

It su-ks.
The pay will probably be less and the amount of vacation time will be less, because the person will be new and not qualify for the additional vacation time.
Company saves money.

Did you get laid off though or did you accept the VSP? If you took VSP you don’t know for sure if you were getting laid off or not.
