The Manager Who Forgot to Move Up

How long can someone stay stuck at the same management level? This clown has been in his role for almost four years and has been ranking the team for all four cycles. (made his gang). I’ve heard that staying more than three years at the same level is bad for their career.

@OP Seems like they get so much credit if they have a high performing team and that helps them with CL boost

So in our case these guys will shelter in place for a bit. While sacrificing us in the meantime.

I have seen many hipo's flame-out. Get to a CL 30 by age 35, then get into the wrong job where management sees what they can do. (often times this is a senior planning job, where your individual contributor skills matter alot, many managers lose these skills once in management). That first executive planning job will determine if you are CL 40+ or limited to a CL 32 to 34. They usually resign after a few years or early retire at age 55.

@bq Ours is definitely one of the founders of the LaQuinta movement, but he’s been parked in that role for over three years. He’s PIP material, but somehow untouchable.

One popular option at my location is to fail up.

There is always hope.

The only way to move up in that company is make some reservation at La Quinta Inn.

People aren’t changing roles as often as before because there is nowhere to move to with all of the offshoring and the shrinking organization.

A new to role supervisor is often worse for your ranking.
