Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Two-weeks notice

I just accepted a new role that starts on 08/24. If Verizon walks me out the day I resign (Monday), that actually works perfectly for my timeline. But if I give notice (I don't want to burn any bridges) and they keep me the full two weeks, I'll need to negotiate my start date, which is far from ideal since they specified how much they need to fill that role ASAP. What's been everyone else's experience lately? Do they keep you or let you go immediately?

I'm so jealous. Can you take us with you?

@OP

Option 1- Give two weeks notice but tell them you’re going to a competitor without naming them. They should walk you out right away but still pay you for the two weeks.

Option 2- Give two weeks notice but use your vacation time and personal days so you’ll effectively be out before the two weeks

Option 3- Ghost them! It’s the millennial and Gen Z way and Verizon loves those two generations more than anything.

It's fine 2 give 2 weeks notice. However don't tell anyone on v team what company hired you. Keep that under wraps until you start the new job.

There's no magic in 2 weeks. Offer one week and use this weekend to organize a handover of your work. Good luck to you.

Do what's best for you. When VZ RIFs all these people, you always hear "It's not personal. It's what's best for the business, we have a responsibility to the shareholders, etc.". Which is true.

But that works both ways. The old fashioned sense of obligation on (only) the employees part is no longer appropriate in this day and age. Unless you're getting some sort of compensation or consideration from it.

@OP It really depends on your role. In most cases your two weeks notice will be honored but don’t be surprised if your access gets restricted.
