I have made it through the VSP and involuntary separations. During the couple months of uncertainty I looked for another job. It’s not remote and would be working in a more stressful environment but one I’m used to as it’s what I did before. It is a little extra money about 12-20k more a year.
I was so stressed about potentially being laid off I went through with the interview process for the other job and was given an offer.
Now that I found out I’m safe from this I don’t know if I should take it. Part of me is saying yes take the offer because the layoffs could happen again soon. I guess just wondering what you all would do? I do love working from home though.

When I was driving into the office before WFH, it was costing me approximately and extra $10k a year in gas, car maintenance, eating out, clothing, etc... so make sure you figure that also into your decision.
I wouldn't take the job. I've worked from home since 2010. There is no way I could ever not work from home. I hate my manager (love my job), so I've been interviewing. My potential new manager mentioned he likes having everyone on the team be on camera. He said he knows everyone hates it, but in his mind he thinks it brings the team together. I refused the final interview. My next job has to still be work from home and there is no reason, for my role, to be on camera.
The fact that it sounds like you are not super happy, excited and are questioning going back into the office environment is something to really listen to. Centene will recover from all this and most like will continue to go on in some form or another, for a very long time. Some will get to stay for the long term and some will be let go, but it's like that everywhere now.
I love working at home to. I actually find you can get more done focus better, however the cons now out weigh the pro's being stressed all the time doesn't offset the perk of being remote..
@a2 Run forest run! I was told I was safe. I was lied to. These people are liars. There will be another round this year. You could be in it. Do you really want to deal with all tye mental issues of staying filing UE and all? More money. Take it and go.
Layoffs WILL happen again.
@OP RUN!!!! There is no safety, security, nor transparency at Centene. We were told that no more layoffs for the "rest of the year". That's only 4 months. Pay attention to verbiage and how it veils and manipulates the message.
Be wise & take the other job. Rather work in an office than not have a home to work in.
@at she could’ve taken the VSP but could be forced to stay until next year to get the benefits. Take the job and RUN
@OP 12-20K is a large jump but I agree with you on the work from home bit. I too would struggle going back into the office full time. Are you expecting a descent sized severance package if you are laid off? If so I would stay. Its unfortunate you didn't take the VSP but then you didn't know you were going to get this job offer. Weigh the pros and cons. Good luck.
This administration destroyed many markets and continues to do so. Now, companies, like this one, is trying to stay afloat. AI is unstoppable in many emerging and sustained markets. The world is in a huge shift and what will be the jobs of tomorrow??? That is the million dollar question
@ap Agree - you need to put yourself first! Take the job and reset and secure your own future!
@OP take the new job. Centene is pulling out of markets, letting contracts lapse without new bids, and bracing for major membership losses during the next open enrollment period. You survived wave 1 of the RIF. But there is likely to be another 1 or 2 waves before March 2027.
Put yourself first. Use the extra money to pay off debt and build that emergency fund.
@OP The job market is terrible. Can you guarantee that a similar job offer will be waiting for you if you wait around to be laid off and collect unemployment?? With the extra money from the new job offer, be proactive and save for a rainy day, so if you find yourself as part of RIF, the landing will be softer.
@OP I took the new job and am out. I saw the writing on the wall and left. In the time I was with Centene there were layoffs at least quarterly. I had had enough.
This reprieve may offer you the opportunity to find something less stressful and more money, but I would not count on being safe for any extended period of time. Sooner or later your number comes up. I chose to determine my own destiny and left on my own.
Ultimately only you can choose what is best for you. But if you are looking for security, Centene is not it.
Take the new job. The market is really hard right now and if you pass this up and then get laid off you will regret it. Former Ceteamer here and trust me the place is run worse than you realize. Expect more layoffs after AEP ends and then see even less members.
I would take the new job, as someone said things are going up. I don’t think Centene is stable for you to stay. I am happy you found something better with more money, but you’re compensated for the madness. I also feel like Centene will regret laying off folks for AI. Every article you see out there it’s costing companies more money with AI, and not really saving money.
Constant organizational shifts are not good for your mental health. Go with the one that will give some semblance of stability, even though no job is permanent.
If you can stand working here, I would stay until I get layed off to get unemployment and severance pay. Specially if you like working from home. Wish you good luck whatever you decide.
Leave on good terms, take the job and if you don’t like it, you can come back making more money in a different role. Remote- saves costs, but the cost of living is rising. Compare what you would make with a raise by staying here versus the pay increase at the new job.
@a5 love that you say AI is taking over the claims jobs, but then suggest to use ChatGPT to weigh the pros and cons! Priceless!
@OP @OP @OP which position would truly make you happier?
Are you being micromanaged here?
How often does the other job post?
I have a feeling it does often because they probably can't keep anyone because it's so stressful.
I personally would stay here let them lay you off get unemployment and possible severance package and breath for a while.
AI is taking over claims so if you are an analyst, your job will most likely be phased out plus all the contracts that aren't renewing.
If you are miserable here then take the job because even though it's stressful you still will make more money.
Use ChatGPT to help you weigh the pros and cons for each.
Wish you all the best whoever you are out there.
Take it and have some control over your future.
Accept the offer! Change is scary albeit necessary at this time. Good luck, don’t give up, it’s going to be tough!
@OP Run, run, run. Run as fast as you can.
Run.
