Thread regarding Fannie Mae layoffs

In-office Requirements?

Anyone else hearing rumors of changes coming to the current in-office requirements?
I’m assuming they’re just looking for ways to ratchet up pressure to get more people to leave voluntarily instead of continuing to pay severance packages.

@19k

They will probably face a reckoning at some stage.

@19k Even worse than existing remote employees, are the new ones they somehow still get to hire.

@ra completely unfair that there are still remote employees.

@gp I got to see quite a bit of upper management doing whatever they wanted while holding those below them to different standards. Also, requiring some to come in while others are allowed to work remote, absolutely no consistency. None of this helps morale and with some good employees getting laid off while other low producers keep their job is another reason morale will never improve. They continue to keep the people that will do whatever they are told. There seems to be no organized plan there.
Eventually most will be minimum of four days a week in the office though. That entire "team player" is just a corporate gaslighting term. There is no team there, some will throw whomever under the bus to keep their job. Others will ignore good ideas or take some of them for themselves while you get left behind.
The place has sort of always been like this, but now is just in hyper drive with way more fear and even lower morale. Not sure if they just don't want people to quit so they don't care.

@fz

Not too sure how many were converted, I think it was just the veterans for whom severance would have been costly but a lot of people there got the option of severance or relocating to one of the three main offices.

My id--tic SVP said that vacation and work from anywhere don’t exempt us for the in office requirements. He even sent an email urging people to be “team player” and help to “advance the mission” by being in the office. The su---r is 100% remote and so is his direct report VP.

@f7 didn’t they convert half the people assigned to the Chicago office to remote?

I've heard some are already adding days, people that were two days in are now three, and some others are up to four days in the office. It is slowly coming, but anyone expecting less days in the office is going to be disappointed. I think it will eventually be at least four days in the office with maybe one flex day.
Also, heard some now have less flexibility. So if your office days were Monday thru Wednesday and you take Monday off, you would have to make up that Monday and come in an additional day that week. So like other corporate companies that say "minimum three days in the office", you have to figure out three days to be in that week and a day off doesn't exempt you.

@OP

What they are doing with the Chicago team is proof that there is little appetite for remote teams. They either want you to quit or come to one of the main offices.

@OP that would be diabolical but nothing would surprise me at this point.

There’s been rumors since RTO in March 2025 that the downsizing was going to bring us to 5 days a week in office. Even though flex schedule were available prior to 2020, there’s been discussion of this going away entirely. Since RTO have been a number of exceptions granted without going through Sedgewick, I’d expect at some point that to end as well.
