More and more people that I work with have such an accent that it is difficult to understand them, even though they are supposedly speaking English.
Absolutely horrid accents that need to be improved just to communicate successfully.
EM needs an entire team of Speech Therapists, or possibly make communication ability a key screening topic in hiring. Unfortunately the interviewers also have unintelligible accents.
Do sound like that coming from the badlands or Birmingham? I do not get it.
The accents are so horrendous that EM should really try to help them overcome that disadvantage.
If someone makes a very intelligent statement with such a pathetic voice, it reduces confidence in the statement. Could cancel out the perception of intelligence if the accent is as bad as the two presenters in the big meeting yesterday.
Another drawback to the horrific accents is that vendors hang up when they hear that accent, thinking the EM engineer is a scammer.

It is so mentally draining to try understand. I have resorted to always logging into zoom and reading the captions even if I am in the same room as the person speaking.

Trust me, there’s plenty of white doctors living in/near major cities. There’s also a reason (many, actually) why they’re not living in these rural dumps you’re referencing.

I have two Indian doctors in the USA (small town rural area). I really have to listen intently to understand what they're saying. I've asked for repeats several times, and once to spell the word.
I remember employees with West Texas and East Texas accents. Lifetime ago it seems.
