Has Anyone Else Experienced Bias in Their Job Search?

I’m beginning to notice a troubling pattern in my job search. When the hiring manager is Indian or most members of an interview panel are Indian, I rarely advance. Looking back, my successful applications all involved white, non-indian, interviewers.

I understand that this pattern alone does not prove bias and that many factors influence hiring decisions. Still, after losing my previous role to HIH and seeing that IT departments are majority Indians, it is very disheartening to think that I
might never find a job again. I am competing with Indians here and outside the US.

This is not a judgment about every Indian interviewer or hiring manager. It is an honest observation about my own experiences and a pattern I believe is worth examining. Has anyone else noticed possible affinity bias during their job search? Have you noticed the ratio of Indians and non-Indians in your team?

Why are all the Minorities Leaving HQ Campus?

I get it, they will not be promoted. We don’t want them over us. But that doesn't mean they have to leave. Just take the paycheck, be quiet, and don’t ask for a career. That’s not too much to ask. Like promotes like, we only promote what looks like us, sorry…

What’s really going on?

There’s a growing concern about how decisions are being made. On top of everything else, there seems to be a pattern where certain groups receive preferential hiring and protection when their managers share the same background. This creates an uneven culture where opportunities, visibility, and project access aren’t distributed fairly. Many employees feel sidelined while others are consistently shielded, and it’s affecting trust across the team

Accents

More and more people that I work with have such an accent that it is difficult to understand them, even though they are supposedly speaking English.

Absolutely horrid accents that need to be improved just to communicate successfully.

EM needs an entire team of Speech Therapists, or possibly make communication ability a key screening topic in hiring. Unfortunately the interviewers also have unintelligible accents.

CDW Layoffs

CDW and McKinsey & Company have both faced scrutiny regarding their DEI practices (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and ESG frameworks (Environmental, Social, and Governance), many referring to these programs as "woke," while company leadership defends them as sound strategies. Who is paying the price for these programs?

Cowboys Vs Indians

Those all American boys and girls working those cheap Indians to the bone. Keeping all the money and good jobs for themselves. Do they actually think that model will work? What happens when the Indians realise they are being sc--wed by the greedy Cowboys? What about the other folks in Argentina, Brazil, Budapest....?

The Mythical Golden Age of VZW

I keep reading these posts about Verizon having once been a utopian workplace and a pure meritocracy. I joined in 2010 and it was anything but. It was more profitable and had a better network than its competitors but it was no meritocracy. There were lots of incompetent "leaders" and DEI had nothing to do with it because they were not minorities. It was also very cliquey.

So when was this mythical golden age that I missed out on?

NI is top 1% of all engineers?

Those getting NI at meta are coping by saying 'we are still top 1% of all engineers in tech'. Can you imagine the arrogance ? Many mediocre DEI hires are still working here. They were hired NOT for their ability. Combine that with ethnic favoritism where a true NI never gets NI b/c manager and report are from same country. Meta needs a deep cleanse, a reset. The toxicity has hit a new high.

Please Indicate if You Are Hispanic or Latino?

I've been throwing out loads of applications after being laid off and one of the questions asked when submitting your resume is if you are hispanic or latino, this seems strange to me considering they then ask for your ethnicity. Now of course its your choice whether to answer or not but for the hispanic or latino question there is only yes or no. This is the case through Workday applications for numerous companies, does anyone know why?

Racism is alive and kicking in USAA

Ever since Amala was brought in, bringing with her cohort of nationals, racism in USAA has been on the rise. Even after her being dropped, pendulum has swung too far where if you're a person of color you no longer feel you belong. It's not overt in your face racism, but the covert subtle type with microagressions. And god forbid if you're not of Christian faith, it's a double whammy. As the resources get squeezed, and the decisions to drop personnels rise, it's the minorities on the chopping blocks first. It's becoming a pattern now, and no longer single occurrences. I'm seeing qualified experienced people get set up to be fired, and mediocrity being protected for no other reason but their skin tone. USAA is heading down a very dark path, perhaps a reflection of the state of the nation.

Indian h1 lobby

Indian h1 lobby is worse in Tampa. All data science teams are spammed with them. They get all the promotions. They never recognize and care for anybody else. Rachel’s team is heavily dominated by them. I think the Indian lobby gives her a perspective that there is no other talent elsewhere. This has gone from bad to worse.

Rising Anti-American Sentiment

I've noticed a lot of USB colleagues noticing that Americans aren't being hired anymore & are upset about that. I see entire floors full of one ethnitity not previously known to our continent. I thought that's what diversity was & we were cool with that! I thought hiring cousins & castemates & taking kickbacks was what DIE (sp?) was all about? Why must people resist letting some others in the global community come-up, my American family has it all already why should yours who may not be as stable yet take-up a spot & income for our unfortunate friends an ocean away?

(Satire about the anti-Indian sentiment post. I swear to God the liberal mind rot sui-idal empathy will end this country.)

Rising anti-Indian sentiment

I understand the anger against GK, which is valid but is it necessary to throw all Indians under the bus? As a WASP who has worked with several competent Indian origin employees over the years who even went on to become American citizens, I just find all this stereotyping against an entire community a sad projection of what our country has become. Always thought the USB community was above it. Every group without exceptions has competency across the board in similar percentages so I don't understand this new and rising sentiment. Just venting, I guess.

I want to assure everyone that Verizon is not the end

I took thr VSP in 2019. I used my severance to start my own business that is now thriving. It's very environmentally friendly and DEI. I found a huge plot of land in Mississippi and established a farm. We only use man and animal power so there's no pollution. In fact all my employees are required to live in on site housing and we produce our own food and clothing so there's no need for them to have cars. We're committed to supporting the black community. In fact, the vast majority of my workforce is black. Though we do have a small staff of non blacks that oversee operations from the offices that built in the big white house that came with the land.

Yall need help

I’m in my late 20s so I assume I’m younger than a lot of you here and I’m also assuming a lot of y'all are probably my parents’ age or even older. Reading some of your hateful words on here Im honestly embarrassed for your kids. I can’t imagine if I saw or heard my mom or dad talk the way you do about human beings and all for what ? DEI? What’s the obsession like give it a rest. Why are you so threatened by who somebody beds down with? How does that affect you in any way? Worried they’ll take your job? Maybe stop being such dinosaurs. Stop coasting just because you think you’ve made it in life because you made it to a JG 3 or above. No wonder a lot of yall are being wiped out of your careers and companies don’t want to hire you and pay you for what you think you’re worth. So entitled. If you hate shells DEI policies so much then leave oh wait you can’t because you banked your whole career on ONE company. The new generations laugh at yall and trust me yes we are taking your jobs and yes we are also making more than you are. Nothing but disgusting sad old people you should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m disgusted to know I walk the halls with you. Grow some ba--s you want to act tough why post anonymously say it with your chest let us know your alias ID, post it on teams, LinkedIn etc or even better I’ll set up a gtky and we can have a f2f chat about how you really feel. We can even grab lunch and you can cry about how you’re all being wiped out by hispanics blacks Asians females g-ys and whoever else you wanna blame for your dead careers.

H1B, OPT and H4 Monopoly

Lately I’m seeing H1B visa holders are pulling their unqualified spouses via H4 visas and also pulling OPT visas.
Where they are layoffs locals and our children’s are stressed with unknown future.
GM offices looks like Indian call centers.
How can we stop this ?
Looks like a serious issue everywhere!!

Have some class solidarity. We are brokies

Anyone else not getting paid c suite money is a part of the brokie class. That includes the d-mb white men that hates everyone and thinks they deserve more. There is no DEI garbage anymore after trump took over. Anyways, 200k a year in this economy is fu--ing nothing and you aint sh-t to be talking down on someone. If you hate indians, asians, or women, do something about it pu--y and stop being on this thread.

Zebra became very hierarchical

Zebra became very hierarchical at the Director and VP level several years ago. It’s an acute problem now.

Seems to be deep reluctance to cull the herd of ineffective Directors and VPs, or do away with layers.

For a $6 B company Zebra is ridiculously hierarchical and top heavy these days. It didn’t use to be this way.

Part of the issue is that Zebra leadership felt compelled to promote hordes of the best and brightest, and to promote women and minorities to make a declarative statement as an unapologetic liberal leaning and DEI embracing company.

All well and good but look around today.

Honest Question

Nike increased women in VP+ roles from 39% to 45% and minorities at Director+ level from 26% to 36% between 2021 and 2025. Considering how few senior leader roles open up each year, that’s a big change in a short time. Has the company become stronger because of it? Would Nike be in an even worse position if it hadn’t invested in DEI?
