Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

You can sue your manager or supervisor personally!

I’m just gonna put this right here. Nike HR and Legal are there to protect the company. You can file a complaint through the EEOC and BOLI but completely separate you can sue your manager. Nike wants you to give up and give in. They want you to believe that what they are doing is ok. Keep solid documentation and take care of yourself! You are not defined by the swoosh or the toxic leadership.

Under ORS 659A, individual supervisors and managers can be held personally liable for discrimination, retaliation, or creating/allowing a hostile work environment — not just the company.

@f5 should a bully and liar individual contributor be held accountable too? I find the laziest employees who don’t do sh-t are always the ones complaining about holding their managers accountable. It’s full hypocrisy at the very least.

Why would anyone want to associate with someone who will sue them because they don't want you?

Discrimination is the foundation of human choice.

If you don't like freedom of association, you deserve to be replaced by a robot.

@c1 some things are worth fighting for and if Nike won’t protect me I think it’s worth protecting myself in a court that will see the truth. If you want to see change you have to part of the change. Accepting and tolerating makes it the norm and that’s not ok! It’s not how I raised my kids and as an adult I believe that a bully and a liar should be held accountable.

I’ve learned this in a very hard way at Nike! Never reach out to ER for any issues with your manager. Just work your way out of the team or company if you have any issues to keep your peace! Not sure if it is worth taking on them personally.

Also, I’ve come across quite a few managers of Indian origin who are absolutely su-kers, be aware! I am glad that I am out of this toxic leadership.

Don’t trust HR! They are not your friend! They are not there to protect you. They are there to protect the company. Never forget that. It su-k’s but it’s true. That’s why nobody reports what their toxic leaders are doing. The policies aren’t written to protect employees. They are written in a way that gives leaders discretion that they shouldn’t be allowed to have. Doing the right thing is not the Nike way anymore unfortunately.

@OP thank you for this. I think that employees lose their identity at Nike and tolerate the abuse. I understand that we all need a job but at what expense? There is a fine line of just complaining but when you know there is a set up then you need to do what’s best for yourself. Workplace trauma is a real thing and if you are seeing a therapist because your work aka your leadership is making you sick then it’s time to start looking for a new job and exercise your rights. Walking away is ok but holding leaders accountable by terms and definitions that the law allows is the right thing to do. It’s ok to stand up for yourself. Document and report anonymously internally so that you have the record. Retaliation is real and speaking up is a sin at Nike. You have legal rights and don’t necessarily need a lawyer to fight the facts in a civil suit if you have enough evidence. Believe in yourself!
