Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

This Friday or next Monday

Pretty sure that we will hear about the layoff this Friday or next Monday. I'm bracing myself for it.
These multiple waves of layoffs are making me sick.

It seems like all 1-1 reported here will be happening in the morning on Monday. Any Monday afternoon 1-1 scheduled?

If you received a layoff notice or 1-1 manager meeting what departments have you been in ?

@m2 It's a moot point. they cap you. You just hit the cap.
They don't actually pay you 1 or 2 weeks for each year.
They do ... up to a point.
At 20 years its just the cap.

@j0 I’m from the US, but possibly the answer would be similar globally. When you say “15 days salary for each completed year,” what does that mean for an Ansys legacy employee hired 20 years ago? Would that count as 20 completed years (as of Ansys hiring) or 1 completed year (as of acquisition)?

@OP Everyone in this company deserves better than these savages running Synopsys could even imagine. If America 🇺🇸 were not so weak, these buffoons would never have been let into this country, they would be deported back to the steaming brown piles of a country they came from. Toxic caste mentality, the imagination of slugs-imagine these buffoons along side a great man like Steve Jobs-fleas at best.
It is a calamity to be caught in the sites of this abomination and it is not your fault.
When the revolution comes, these creeps will reap the whirlwind of the stinky brown gale they rode in on.

Why are they sending these meeting invitations at 10 pm? Is it just because of the time difference with the Sunnyvale?

@hy I wrote the comments as @ht. I located in USA but not CA. I am not a India. There are always mean people like @hw.

I am not mad on the layoff since I will resign soon anyway. It gives me a perfect chance and have a severance package.

I use Gemini all the time. Is there any issue with that?

This is what will happen during you 1-1 in India:

  1. You manager or skip manager and HR rep will be present in a cabin
  2. The manager will say your role is being eliminated and they can not find any other role for you.
  3. HR will say you submit a formal resignation and they will give you a generous severance package as listed in previous comment. Else, you will be terminated without severance.
  4. HR will give you the exact severance amount and you will be tempted to give formal resignation letter.
  5. You will have to type the resignation on the spot and send it to your manager.
  6. Within 5-10 minutes, you will get a letter in which you will be sent on garden leave with severance details.
  7. You have an option to continue your employment for the garden leave period or get the severance package immediately.
  8. Even if you get a job in 5-10 days, you will get the full severance package.
  9. Your network access will be available for next 24 hours. Copy your personal stuff in a folder. IT will help in transferring it to a pen drive after ensuring nothing official is getting copied.
  10. Your team mates might give you a small farewell send off.
  11. Within 24 hours, you will loose all access to network and buildings as your access card will be disabled along with login id.

In India, you will get the following:

  1. 2/3 months salary for garden leave.
  2. 4 months salary as severance pay.
  3. 15 days salary for each completed year

Most of junior folks in India will land a job in 1 month, so, it’s a sort of lottery for them.

@hw It depends on your location. Gemini does not know.
You can get time to look around and see if someone will take you.
It will be tough on this round since reqs and openings are tight.

People have had their termination rescinded after finding another position.

But my honest take is that it depends on local laws and customs.

@ht you looked it up on Gemini!?? Wow, you must be Indian for sure. Tell Shanky you're using AI, finally.

I also got an unexpected 1:1 with my direct manager at 9:30 on Monday. I believe I will be laid off on Monday. I asked Gemini what would happen. It says our connection to the company network with be terminated immediately include Synopsys email and Microsoft Team chat immediately after the notice of you termination. Synopsys would not give you a chance to see goodbye to your coworkers, especially if you are working remotely. So Gemini suggests you delete your personal data from your computer, copy and keep contact information you want and some Human Resource data since you will immediately lose access to all of those.

@fd They'll tell you that your journey ends here and, in the best-case scenario, hand you your termination agreement along with your severance pay.

So I am @eb in the comments, it’s confirmed I’m on the list and would be impacted on Monday. HR’s is also in the invite list and my manager hinted at it too. Does anybody know what’s the severance that they are offering in India? Are they complying with the legal minimum or is it more generous?

Also what happens if someone is on business travel.

exceeding wall street expectations and laying off people at the same time is deadly for any sort of morale left.

Nenni is touting snps as the big ai winner because they managed to lure in 3 big wigs from siemens eda, but at the same time the undercarriage is eroding away through compulsive cutting meaures.

Bizarre.

The company basically announced the increase in layoffs in the earnings call yesterday. Directors approved this increase on August 21.

If 10% was $300M to $350M we can all do the math for the new numbers of $425M to $500M

Synopsys increased its estimated pre-tax restructuring charges to between $425 million and $500 million in August 2026, up from an initial estimate of $300 million to $350 million.

Key Details of the Restructuring Update

Driver of Costs: Higher severance payouts and facility closures linked to its global site strategy.

Timeline: The plan was initially approved by the board on November 9, 2025, with updated cost estimates approved in August 2026.

Financial Context: The upward revision was announced alongside Synopsys Q3 fiscal 2026 financial results, where the company raised its full-year revenue and earnings guidance due to strong AI-driven demand.Broader Pressures: The company is also managing an elevated debt load of approximately $10 billion following the acquisition of Ansys

@eb I received a meeting invitation from my direct manager for next Monday, and I’m not sure what to expect. In previous layoff rounds, those conversations were typically handled by the skip-level manager and HR.
Anyway, I’m prepared for whatever may happen. It wouldn’t be the end of the world—it’s only a job, and one that I no longer enjoy.

@dz layoffs will keep the share up for a maximum of 1 month, some of the laid off will be absorbed by competition (2/3 companies) and survivors leave the first chance they get,
you wont see the stock going 2X, 3X with this ..., sure company needs to be tighten its fists, but its not its spending on hiring top mgmt
